Chapter 6

(Kim Yeon's POV)

...

The helicopter rose higher, and soon Yuri was out of sight.

Kim Yeon's breath came in ragged gasps as he fought to keep up with Min Jae. The swarm of zombies seemed endless, closing in on them from all sides. Every swing of his weapon felt heavier than the last, his arms burning with exhaustion.

But he couldn't stop—not yet.

"Yeon!" Min Jae shouted, pointing to the alleyway.

Kim Yeon nodded, but before he could follow, a sudden surge of zombies pushed between them, cutting him off.

His eyes widened in panic as Min Jae disappeared from view, lost in the chaos.

"Min Jae!"

Kim Yeon called out, but his voice was drowned by the growls and snarls of the undead. He swung his weapon desperately, but the sheer number of zombies made it impossible to move forward.

Forced to retreat, Kim Yeon turned and sprinted in the opposite direction, his heart pounding in his chest.

I'll find him later. I have to survive first, he thought, his mind racing as he dodged the outstretched hands of the zombies.

He ran through the narrow streets, trying to put as much distance between himself and the horde as possible. But no matter where he turned, the dead were everywhere, closing in on him like a noose tightening around his neck.

I'm trapped, he realized, his pulse quickening with dread.

There's no way out.

Just as despair began to take hold, Kim Yeon spotted a gap between two crumbling buildings.

It was narrow, but it was his only chance. He squeezed through the gap, scraping his arms against the rough brick as he forced his way into a dark alley and rested there for a few couple of minutes.

...

For a moment, it seemed like he had found a brief reprieve.

But then, the moans of zombies echoed from behind him. They had found him again.

Cursing under his breath, Kim Yeon kept running, his legs aching from the relentless sprint. Every corner he turned, there were more zombies—an unending sea of death. Panic clawed at his mind as he realized he was running out of options. There was no safe place left.

...

This is it, he thought

when...

...

..

"Yeon! Over here!"

(Kim Yeon's POV ended)

.

.

Kim Yeon's head whipped around at the familiar voice.

Min Jae

Relief flooded his chest as he spotted his brother-in-law emerging from another street, waving frantically.

"This way!" Min Jae shouted, pointing to a path between two collapsed buildings.

"Run!"

Without hesitation, Kim Yeon sprinted toward him, following Min Jae's lead. The two of them ran side by side, the sound of the zombie horde growing louder behind them.
