Chapter 13
As the days turned into weeks, Han So Hee and Kim Yeon found themselves stuck in a suffocating cycle of waiting
After reaching the supposed rescue point early, they camped out in a nearby house, keeping a watchful eye for any sign of the rescue team
.
Ten days passed.
.
No one came.
.
Four more days.
.
Still nothing
.
Each morning, Kim Yeon would climb to the roof, holding his old military radio, cranking it desperately, hoping to hear any signal, any static, anything that would prove that they weren't forgotten
But all they got was silence...
.
.
.
On the 25th day, as the two sat by the window of the house they'd come to know as their temporary home, Han So Hee broke the heavy silence
"They're not coming, are they?" she asked, her voice hollow, not really expecting an answer
Kim Yeon lowered the radio, frustration evident in his furrowed brow
"No response from anyone, Not even my air force buddies."
"Something must've gone wrong..."
So Hee's gaze fell to the floor, her mind racing.
How had they gone from running through crowded streets, dodging zombies, to waiting in a quiet house, clinging to a hope that was slowly fading away?
"You really thought they'd come," she muttered, biting her lip
'...'
So Hee shook her head, feeling a mix of anger and sadness.
"...after all this waiting, I really thought—" she trailed off, unable to finish her thought
Kim Yeon stood up and walked towards her He placed a hand on her head, gently stroking it
"I know I wanted to believe it too"
"I wanted to believe that we could have some sort of future... outside of this nightmare."
So Hee chuckled darkly.
"A future? What kind of future is there, Kim Yeon?"
"What future do we have in a world crawling with zombies?"
