Chapter 11

Over the next few days, Kim Yeon's attitude towards Han So Hee changed drastically.

He started speaking kindly, sharing food with her, and even flirting.

Every time they shared the same water bottle, he teased her.

"You know, this is like an indirect kiss," he said with a grin, passing the bottle.

Han So Hee raised an eyebrow, her confusion deepening.

What's gotten into him? she thought

One moment he was cold and rude, and now he was flirting. She couldn't help but wonder if this was some sort of trick

Is he planning something against me?

Maybe he's waiting to bait me into a zombie trap and run off...

Deciding it was best to stay on high alert, she kept her distance, despite his friendly gestures.

But for now, they had a common goal—survival

.

.

One day, while discussing their dwindling supplies, they both decided to venture out and hunt for food

As they roamed through the deserted city streets, Kim Yeon continued to flirt...

"You know," he said as they filled their bags with groceries,

"if this were a normal world, it'd feel like we're a couple out shopping together"

Han So Hee shot him a glance

"Right. If by shopping you mean killing zombies," she replied, rolling her eyes but finding herself smiling despite her wariness.

The dynamic between them was strange.

Every time they went out for supplies, Han So Hee would handle most of the zombie hunting, skillfully taking them down with her arrows.

Meanwhile, Kim Yeon, though helpful in gathering supplies, would sometimes glance nervously in her directions thinking if she might exact revenge for his past rudeness.

One evening, after returning to the house, Kim Yeon sat down with her, a serious look on his face.

"There's something you should know," he said, leaning closer.

Han So Hee crossed her arms, wary of what was coming. "What is it?"

"There's a place we can go. A rescue team comes every ten days to pick up survivors. Tomorrow is D-Day. We need to get there before it's too late"

Her eyes widened, but she quickly masked her excitement with suspicion.

"How do you know that?"

Kim Yeon leaned back, looking a bit proud.

"I've been in contact with some old friends from the air force. They're part of the rescue team. I used to be in the air force, too"

Han So Hee nodded slowly, processing this new information.

Maybe he's not as useless as I thought.

"And you're just telling me this now?" she asked.

He shrugged.

"Didn't seem like the right time before. But now we have a chance."

.

.

The next morning, they packed up whatever supplies they could carry and set out on their journey toward the rescue point.

When they arrived, the helicopter was already there, the sound of its blades slicing through the air, drawing zombies from all directions.

Han So Hee's heart raced as they tried to push through the horde, but the sheer number of zombies made it impossible to reach the helicopter.

"We're too late!" she shouted, frustration bubbling in her voice.

Kim Yeon cursed under his breath as zombies began attacking the rescuers. The situation quickly spiraled out of control.

The helicopter, unable to stay any longer, lifted off, leaving them behind.

They stood there, watching helplessly as their chance for escape vanished before their eyes.

"They left us..." Han So Hee muttered, her voice tinged with disbelief.

Disappointment weighed heavy on them as they made their way back to the house.

Kim Yeon, trying to lighten the mood, smiled and gestured towards the door.

"Well, looks like the Emperor and his Empress have returned to their palace"

Han So Hee couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it.

"Right, 'Emperor and Empress.' Sure"

"Don't worry," he said, his usual teasing grin returning.

"We'll catch the next helicopter"

She smiled faintly, appreciating the effort even though the disappointment still gnawed at her. And so, they returned to their strange routine—Han So Hee killing zombies, Kim Yeon gathering supplies.

Their partnership had become more functional, though Han So Hee still kept her guard up around him.

.

.

But one day, as they were scavenging for supplies, everything changed...

They were surrounded by zombies, and Han So Hee fought fiercely, as usual, to protect them both.

But in a split second, a zombie lunged at her from a blind spot.

She gasped, trying to react in time, but before she could, Kim Yeon rushed in, shoving her out of the way.

"Watch out!" he shouted.

He managed to kill the zombie, but he gets stabbed by something on the ground while fighting.

Han So Hee watched in horror as blood seeped through his shirt...
