Chapter 14

Kim Yeon and Han So Hee sat in the dimly lit room, frustration etched on their faces

Fifteen more days had passed since they had decided to wait for a rescue that never came

.

.

And now... Their supplies were dwindling, and hope was slipping through their fingers like sand.

"It's been a nightmare," Kim Yeon said, leaning back against the wall, his voice heavy with disappointment.

"I thought for sure someone would come by now."

So Hee nodded, her brow furrowed.

"I thought we could survive this. I thought..." She trailed off, staring at the floor as if the answers were hidden in the dust.

They checked every corner of the house, but their search yielded only expired cans and stale bread.

Even the stores in the city had their packed food all expired.

.

.

Just when they were about to give up, Kim Yeon opened a drawer in the kitchen and pulled out a full bottle of wine from the corner of it.

"Well, look what I found," he said, holding it up like a trophy.

"Wine? Again? We must be the luckiest people alive," So Hee replied with a bitter laugh.

"Or the unluckiest," he countered, chuckling.

"What do you say we drink this and toast to our impending doom?"

"Sounds like a plan," she said, a glimmer of mischief in her eyes.

.

.

They settled on the floor, the bottle between them, and took long swigs, letting the liquid courage wash away their worries.

As the wine flowed, They talked more about their inner thoughts.

"You know, I always thought I'd have a love life worth talking about," So Hee said, giggling.

"But here we are, stuck in a zombie apocalypse, single and lonely."

"Yeah, same here," Kim Yeon replied, his voice surprisingly soft.

"It's kind of ironic, isn't it? The world's gone to hell, and we're both still single."

"Is that more disappointing than the zombie Outbreak?" she asked, her head tilting to one side as she seriously pondered the question.

"I'd say it's a close call," he said, raising his bottle in a mock toast.

"But at least we're in this together, right?"

"Right," So Hee echoed, her cheeks flushed from the wine and their shared laughter.

.

As they continued to drink the whole night, the atmosphere shifted. The weight of their circumstances felt lighter, almost bearable.

As the alcohol took effect, their confessions spilled out.

"You know," So Hee began, her words slightly slurred, clearly drunk.

"I always wanted to kiss someone before I... you know, before I die."

Kim Yeon, drunk too, raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on his lips.

"Really?"

"I, too, think that if we're going to die, shouldn't we at least experience something... worth remembering?"

A laugh escaped her lips, but it was filled with a mix of nerves and excitement.

"Alright, then let's do this... Shall we kiss each other and fullfill our wishes? "

"are you willing to kiss me? Before the zombies come knocking at the door."

"Why not? We're both single, and we might not have another day to live for all that we know," he said, his heart racing.

They moved closer, the world around them fading as they shared a moment that felt like it could bridge the gap between life and death.

As their lips met, it was hesitant at first, but soon turned into something deeper, filled with the unspoken fear and desire that had been building between them.

Soon they broke the kiss and looked deep into their eyes.

They leaned in again, their lips meeting in a clumsy yet sweet kiss.

But this time, The world outside faded as they lost themselves in the moment. The kiss was soft at first, then grew deeper, fueled by the urgency of their circumstances.

But just as the kiss intensified, So Hee suddenly pulled away, her eyes fluttering as she realized the wine had taken its toll.

She felt the heaviness of sleep pulling her under.

"Wait," Kim Yeon murmured, still caught in the haze of the moment.

But as he looked at her, he saw that her eyes were closed, her breathing soft and steady. She had fallen asleep beside him.

A soft smile crept across his face as he settled beside her, feeling a warmth in his chest he hadn't expected.

The chaos of the outside world felt distant, and for the first time in weeks, he allowed himself to relax, drifting off to sleep with her by his side.
