He could hear the pounding of his heart and his own heavy breathing. He could also sense Athena's rage brewing beneath the stoic demeanour she tried to maintain. "You were idiotic and reckless, Odysseus of Ithaca. That's no teaching of mine."

Forcing himself to meet her gaze, his fists clenched by his side. "That's just like you. Selfish and vain." She made a sound of disagreement and Odysseus fought the urge to yell at her. Yelling wouldn't get him anywhere. Not in front of Athena, the goddess of wisdom.

"I can't teach an idiot anything. Anything I say will be lost to your stupidity." She snarled at him, words as pointed as an owl's claws. "Consider this my goodbye." Odysseus wanted to scream at her; call her every name he could think of.

"It's not like you taught me anything." He spat, knowing it was a lie. Athena had taught him how to be a general and a leader but in the heat of the argument it didn't matter. "You can leave and your damned goodbye!"

She circled around him like a bird going in for the kill. "Then you can say goodbye to Penelope too." Her words held so much malice Odysseus feared for Penelope's life. "What?"

"When, no, if you return back to Ithaca your Penelope will hold no love for you. Instead, a monster encountered on your journey will bewitch your so-called beloved heart." Athena pointed towards him, eyes filled with fury and rage as she cast her wrath upon his wife.

Odysseus felt terrible. Terrible that Penelope had to suffer for him incurring this goddess' wrath. Terrible that he didn't feel the fear he thought he would. Terrible that he hoped the monster would at least treat her nice and not cheat on her like he had.

A/N - this is something we came up with so Penelope wouln't be so heart broken
