{ jonesy }Sleeping in on a Saturday was a rare occurrence now that I worked in F1. But here I was, in the king-sized bed that nearly swallowed me whole, just waking up at nearly lunchtime.
I forgot it was possible to sleep this long without it being due to a hangover. I must be more exhausted than I think.
My phone vibrating on the nightstand caught my attention. I groaned, rolling over, still rubbing the sleep from my eyes, reaching for my phone. I cursed myself for the smile that fought its way onto my lips at the sight of Lando's name lighting up my phone.
He was facetiming me.
I hope I don't look as rough as I usually do after just waking up.
"Hello?" I hum, my voice still hoarse from no use for hours due to sleep.
Lando's familiar laughter filled my ears. "You're still in bed?" His curls were sticking to his forehead, looking wet or something. He must've just come back from a run.
I just nodded in response, sleep still begging to take over. I'm pretty sure I could sleep for another few hours if it wasn't so damn bright in here.
Why didn't Lando put better curtains in here?
"I like the natural sunlight to wake me up after a while." How did he know what I was wondering?
"You're thinking out loud, Jo." More laughter.
My eyes open wide, "Oh." And now my cheeks are flushed red, great.
I shuffled myself up further, leaning against the headboard. I needed all the assistance possible to stay upright right now.
"I didn't know you could sleep this long. I've been up for hours." Lando's voice filled the silence again.
I shrugged, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes again, "I can when I've been working my ass off editing pictures of the two of you hooligans."
"And you're grumpy too? Geez." He teased and I could tell he was opening his fridge, looking for something to eat I assume. It shouldn't be hard, most of his meals are planned for him anyway to ensure he keeps to a good diet to keep his body where it needs to be.
I glared at him through the phone, waiting for him to look back at the camera to notice my displeasure. It took him a few seconds, but he finally returned his gaze to me and this time, he at least attempted to stifle his laugh. His face scrunched up at his efforts.
And it was cute! This isn't fair.
"Why'd you call again?" I questioned, not wanting to beat around the bush anymore.
I'm pretty sure Ruthie wanted to go shopping this afternoon since we haven't been able to lately. We usually do girls days like this pretty regularly. If that's the case and I actually agreed to plans for today, I need to start getting ready rather soon.
He huffs, pouting at me in a joking matter. "Am I not allowed to call just to talk to my best friend?"
"I'm not Max." I deflected his question in order to keep myself from blushing. There's no way he considered me his best friend.
"Jo, I can have more than one best friend and you've somehow managed to worm your way into that position." He explained, sitting down on the couch in his Monaco apartment. God, I miss that couch; it was so comfy. And perfect to take a nap on – with Lando, but we'll move on from that. "So, stop telling yourself you don't mean that much to me. You do."
Fuck, he's right.
Because, even though Ruthie is my overall best friend, Lando has made his way up there too. I don't know what I'd do with the overly energetic, annoying, stunningly handsome, curly-haired Brit in my life.
