It's 3:52 in the morning and I don't know how to sleep. Harry is dead asleep in the recliner and I can't even shut my eyes because he's snoring so loud.
I sighed and got up off the couch and shook his shoulders gently until he woke up. "what are you doing?" His voice is raspy.
"I can't sleep."
"Do I need to carry you to my bed?"
"No."
"Do I need to kiss you a million times until you fall asleep?"
"No."
"Then what do you want me to do?"
"Will you just stay up with me, please?"
He sighed and got up, "How about we drive around town."
"Won't your parents wonder where you are?"
He shook his head, "Don't worry, Harm. I'll leave them a note." He told me to wait in the car because he was going to make some coffee.
I started the car and turned the heat up all the way because it is -36 degrees out. I hate winter when it's here but when summer comes around I miss the snow. I haven't fell down on the ice this winter so that's a plus.
When Harry gets in, he hands me a cup of coffee and sips his. "I didn't know what kind of coffee you would've liked. It's French vanilla."
"It's fine."
"So I'm not really sure where we're going. What day is it?"
"Monday."
"Yikes, you have school today."
I shrugged, "I'm sure they'll understand that I have nowhere to live."
He furrowed his eyebrows, "What do you mean? You're living with me."
"I know, but, that's not going to last."
He took a left turn, "why?"
"I mean," I sighed and thought about my words. I really didn't want to hurt his feelings, "it's just not ideal."
"Oh."
It was silent for a long time until we reached our destination. It was a hill. A really big hill. He got out of the car and walked towards the top and laid down, making an imprint in the snow.
When I also got to the top of the hill I just stood over him. He didn't look at me or say anything. His eyes stayed closed and I could see his breath in the air.
"Harry."
No answer.
I sighed for the hundredth time today and laid next to him with my head on his chest. I could feel his heart beat and see how his cheeks were turning red.
I shut my eyes once he began playing with my hair. "I'm so glad you like me." He said breaking the silence.
"Why wouldn't I?"
He shrugged.
Then he started crying again.
