Omniscient
The night was in full swing. Music boomed through the speakers, filling the rooftop bar where Ramirah's bachelorette party was in full effect. The chaotic laughter and dancing filled the space. Ramirah, surrounded by her closest friends, Nina, Kay, and Paris. Ramirah being the center of attention, dressed in a fitted short white dress that shimmered under the light, her head adorned by a mini veil hat and a sash that read 'Bride' in rose gold lettering.
The drinks had been flowing all night, and Ramirah was starting to feel the effects of the liquor. Her head was light but her smile wide as she laughed at something Nina said. But despite the laughter, the excitement, and the fun of it all, her mind kept drifting back to Solana. She hadn't seen her in hours, their separate bachelorette parties keeping them apart, and it was driving her crazy.
Nina, always quick to pick up on her moods, leaned over and nudged her playfully. "Alright, bitch. You're thinking about her already, aren't you?"
Ramirah tried to deny it, but her friends knew her too well. Kay grinned, raising her glass. "Girl, it hasn't even been a full night, and you're already moping."
Paris laughed from across the table, her arm draped around Nina's shoulder. "We knew you wouldn't last the whole night without calling her."
"I'm not—" Ramirah began, but she was already reaching for her phone. The alcohol had loosened her up, and the need to hear Solana's voice was much stronger than her pride.
"Uh-huh," Nina teased, raising an eyebrow. "Not what?"
Ramirah couldn't help but laugh, holding up her phone in a surrender. "Damn Nina, okay! I miss her."
The group erupted into laughter, playfully teasing her. Paris leaned in closer, her tone light. "You're a hopeless romantic, Mirah. It's actually adorable."
With an eye roll, Ramirah scrolled through her contacts and pressed Solana's contact. Her heart raced a little as she waited for the call to connect, her friends watching her with knowing smirks.
Across town, Solana's party was happening in a more lowkey way. A few of her closest friends, Mikey, Reese, Eli and Ty had met up for drinks at a private bar. They spent the night swapping stories, reminiscing, and teasing her about the big day. But then her phone buzzed, and she saw Ramirah's name light up the screen. Solana's face said it all. She was head over heels.
She knew Ramirah too well. They had both agreed to enjoy their separate parties, but she had a feeling it wouldn't be long before one of them caved. And now, here they were, Ramirah caving first though she probably would've caved first if she waited a second later.
"Hey, baby," Solana answered, her voice warm and comforting despite the distance between them.
Ramirah's breath hitched at the sound of her voice, a rush of butterflies filling her stomach. "Hi," she replied softly, the noise of the party around her fading into the background.
Nina's eyes widened in pretend shock. "Oh my God, look at how she's acting already!"
Ramirah glared at her friends, but there was no hiding the smile that formed on her lips. "I just... I miss you," she confessed, her voice a little slurred from the drinks, but still sincere.
Solana laughed softly on the other end of the line, her voice low. "I miss you too, pretty. You having fun?"
"Yeah, but..." Ramirah bit her lip, her fingers twisting the fabric of her dress. "It's not the same without you." She unconsciously pouted.
Paris and Kay shared a look, both of them grinning from ear to ear. "She so pussy whipped," Kay whispered, earning a laugh from the table but a glare from Ramirah.
