BONDITA

He left.
He left me.
He left me just like that...

And here I stood, all broken. So broken that I couldn't even stop my tears, which flowed constantly. What just happened was so hard to explain. Everything was okay this morning, and now, in an instant, everything is finished—everything is destroyed. It’s all over. He doesn’t trust me anymore. He doesn’t trust me with work, or maybe with our relationship too—but how can it be my fault? I didn’t know a thing about the files. Yeah, I shouldn’t have left it outside, but how did it burn? How did it end up there? And why did I come here? What was my fault that he shouted at me and said he doesn’t trust me anymore? My heart broke into pieces, and it was because of him... again.

My legs shook as I moved outside of the house. Anirudh left me, but I have to go to court by myself now... Tears blurred my eyes as I walked, and for the first time after marriage, I wanted to go home... to Maa. I wanted to see her, hug her, and cry on her lap. I wanted her comfort so badly... I just want to go home. But not now... not until I find out what happened with those files, who took them, and how they burned. I have to find out the truth. Maybe then... maybe Anirudh can trust me again... or something, I don’t know.

With each step, the pain in my chest only grew stronger, but so did my determination. Anirudh might have given up on me, but I won’t give up on myself. Not yet.

"Bonduuu," I gaped as I heard a loud voice coming from the door. Standing in front of the entrance, I looked up with my tearful eyes, and in that moment, Kabir was definitely not the last person I wanted to see... Yeah, it was Kabir. I quickly wiped my tears, trying to hide the mess that I was.

Kabir had changed. He looked more professional now—wait, what happened to my best friend? He wore sunglasses, had grown a beard that was neatly shaved, and was dressed in a crisp white shirt with black pants, looking all put together and clean.

I walked towards Kabir, and as I stood in front of him, I tried to muster a smile, but I couldn’t—I just couldn’t. Not when everything was falling apart around me. But I kept my expression neutral, refusing to let the sadness show, refusing to break down in front of him.

Kabir removed his sunglasses, a familiar smile playing on his lips. "Well... Well, look who’s here! Did you miss me, huh? And what are you doing out here?" he asked, his tone light and teasing, just like old times. But then, his expression changed slightly, curiosity and concern flickering in his eyes. "I saw Anii bro leaving with that girl... What was her name? Uh... Mishri? Mishi?”

“Mishti,” I corrected, looking down, unable to meet his eyes. I knew that if I did, I wouldn’t be able to hold back my tears. The emotions were too raw, too close to the surface.

There was a heavy silence between us before Kabir spoke again, his voice softer, more serious. “Yes, that girl, exactly. But Bondu... you haven’t answered me. Did you miss—” His words came to a sudden stop as he noticed my state. “Bondu? What happened? Huh?”

His tone shifted, the playful edge gone, replaced with genuine concern. I could see the worry in his eyes, the way he took in my trembling form, my red-rimmed eyes. And in that moment, I felt a crack in the wall I’d built around myself, the weight of everything pushing me closer to breaking.

I shook my head quickly, trying to dismiss the concern in Kabir's eyes. “Nothing, Kabir. It’s... it’s nothing,” I whispered, my voice wavering as I attempted to hold back the flood of emotions that threatened to spill over. But Kabir wasn’t one to be easily convinced. He always knew when something was wrong, always knew when I was hiding my pain behind a false smile.
