TEAGAN SAT at the long wooden table, script open in front of her, trying to look composed. her heart, though, had a different idea. it felt like it was trying to escape her chest, thudding loudly in her ears. she'd read through these lines a dozen times already, but somehow, the weight of this moment - the first read-through, with everyone watching - made the words seem foreign.

next to her, nicholas sat calm and collected, exuding an effortless confidence that made teagan equal parts annoyed and impressed. she couldn't help but steal glances at him from the corner of her eye. his demeanor was unreadable, though he did have a slight grin tugging at the corners of his lips as if he knew something no one else did. or maybe he was just that charming. damn it.

marcus, their director, stood at the head of the table, hands clasped together as he surveyed the room like a proud parent about to watch his kids perform a school play. "alright, folks," he began, voice booming with enthusiasm, "let's get this party started. we're here to make something special. teagan, nicholas - you're our leads. we're counting on you to bring the magic."

magic? teagan thought, trying not to laugh at the pressure that word alone carried. sure, no big deal. just, you know, carry the whole movie on your backs. casual.

she risked another look at nicholas, and this time, he caught her gaze. his eyes were steady, and for a brief moment, the world outside of them dissolved. the murmurs around the table quieted, the rustling of scripts faded away, and all she could see was him. it wasn't romantic, not in the traditional sense, but it was something. there was a tension in the air, not necessarily the bad kind, but the kind that made teagan's stomach flip.

this is going to be anything but easy, teagan thought.

nicholas gave her a tiny nod as if to say, you ready for this? she inhaled sharply, gave a tight smile, and turned her attention back to the script, the printed lines now swimming before her eyes.

marcus clapped his hands once, drawing attention back to himself. "alright, let's start with the scene in the coffee shop. teagan, nicholas, let's feel out the flow, play off each other. we don't need perfection yet - just see where the dialogue takes you."
