THE MORNING SUN stretched high over the beach as the cast and crew gathered, all setting up around the gleaming blue ocean. the day's scene for the movie wasn't just important for the movie; it was also one of the first big scenes where josh and harper, still a bit prickly from their "enemy" phase, would have to turn on the fake affection. and teagan was ready. mostly.

the cast had assembled at the dock, awaiting their scene on the boat, where josh and harper would attempt their "fake relationship" act for their friends. the vibe was loose, a little slap-happy, as everyone slapped on sunscreen and exchanged banter.

with a final adjustment to her sunglasses, teagan forced herself to focus, which was no easy feat as nicholas strolled shirtless onto the boat set, looking every bit like the effortlessly charming josh he was supposed to be. his hair was just tousled enough to be ridiculous, and he had the audacity to give her a grin that looked more like a dare.

"all set for today, t?" he asked, flashing her that infuriating smile.

"yeah, yeah." teagan tried not to grin back as she shielded her eyes, pretending to survey the set with exaggerated intensity. "just waiting for you to get in character and convince me you're not just here to show off."

nicholas shrugged, leaning against the railing in a way that would have been incredibly staged if it weren't so natural. "guess i'll have to try harder," he replied, his eyes glinting. "don't worry, i'll really turn on the charm."

"oh, please," she teased back, keeping her voice cool. "the charm's about as strong as a dead battery."

he laughed, their easy banter flowing as naturally as the waves crashing beside them. she could see that several of the crew members were already smirking, probably more invested in watching them flirt than the actual scene itself.

director marcus shouted from behind the camera, giving the go-ahead for rehearsal. "alright, nicholas and teagan, you two are kicking things off with some hand-holding. make it convincing! remember, your friends are supposed to believe this is real."
