EVERYTHING INSIDE HER screamed to turn away, to walk out and leave the mess behind. but her feet wouldn't move. her body, her heart, was rooted in the moment.

and then, with a quiet exhale, she walked to the door.

the rest of the world outside her trailer vanished as she reached for the handle.

she wasn't sure if she was ready.

but somehow, she knew it didn't matter.

teagan took a deep breath and opened the door.

standing there, his expression unreadable yet soft, was nicholas. his familiar presence filled the doorway, tall and disheveled, holding a brown paper bag with the unmistakable burger king logo on it. he looked exhausted, with hints of dark circles under his eyes and an almost sheepish smile tugging at his lips. despite the tension that still lingered, despite all the reasons they had to be apart, teagan's heart gave a traitorous flutter at the sight of him. she had missed him, she realized - she'd missed him more than she'd let herself admit.

nicholas cleared his throat, breaking the silence between them. his fingers tightened around the bag as he raised it slightly. "figured your usual at burger king might help smooth things over. you know, just in case i needed to say sorry one more time."

teagan fought to suppress a smile, cocking her head as she raised an eyebrow at him. "burger king? really? are you trying to bribe me with fast food now?"

a hint of relief flickered in his eyes, as if her teasing was the opening he'd hoped for. he gave her a crooked grin. "i figured it was the only logical next step in a desperate apology attempt. besides," he added, lifting the bag higher, "it's your usual. chicken wrap without mayo, waffle fries with ketchup, six nuggets, and..." he held up the other hand, revealing a small sundae with extra whipped cream. "caramel sundae. just the way you like it."

she couldn't help but laugh, rolling her eyes but still eyeing the bag with interest. "okay, maybe you know me a little too well."
