"W-w-what do you mean?" Riley stutters. "Please, follow me to the N.I.C.U." We walk to the room, where I see Mathew crying and squirming, and Tristan.. lifeless. "The doctor says that he had too much blood in his head, from being upside down." Riley looks over at me and bursts out crying. She sobs, like she never has before. Breaking the news to the family was even worse. Maya and Josh looked like they were crumbling into pieces. I can't even describe what our parents felt. Once Mathew was ready to go home, Riley and I drove back to the apartment. Everybody else went back home, because they had to go back to school or work. It felt terrible, to know that one of my kids died. A part of me, a soul that was half of me and half of Riley. Riley and I cried for days, aside from taking care of Mathew. I was holding him one day, I said, "Hey bud, you know, you had a brother. His name was Tristan. He would have loved you. But mommy and I are here for you, and we always will be." I lay him in his crib, and go up to our room, with Riley laying on the bed. "Hey princess, how are you doing?" "I can't get over the fact that I lost a child. He was upside down inside of me! I made him die." "No, no Riles you didn't kill him! This is life, not everything will work out the way we want it to. But we still have one healthy child left. Mathew Friar, born July 4th 2020, at 5:38 a.m." "I love you babe." she says. "I love you Riles."
