Two days had passed since their dinner, and though life had returned to its usual pace, Rune and Aaron couldn’t get each other out of their minds. Every passing moment was filled with stolen thoughts of their last encounter, but neither made a move to reach out—until Aaron, unable to resist anymore, called Rune.

“I was wondering if you’d like to take a break from all the business talk,” Aaron said casually over the phone. “I could show you the city. Something tells me you haven’t explored much yet.”

Rune hesitated, the familiar nervous flutter in his chest making him pause. “I guess I could use a break,” he replied, trying to sound indifferent.

And so, the plan was set.

The day was perfect—warm with a gentle breeze that carried the scents of the city. Aaron had planned a walking tour through some of the most picturesque streets, and Rune couldn’t help but feel captivated. The vibrant city was full of life—street performers, bustling cafes, and beautiful parks lined the cobbled roads.

Aaron walked beside Rune, his relaxed demeanor putting Rune at ease. “You’re quiet today,” Aaron teased, nudging Rune lightly.

“I’m just… taking it all in,” Rune replied, eyes darting around as he soaked up the atmosphere.

At one point, Aaron bought them ice cream from a small stand, handing Rune a cone with a playful smirk. “Careful. Don’t let it melt on you.”

Rune rolled his eyes but couldn’t hide his smile. As they strolled along the streets, they shared stories—Rune talked about his life in Korea, and Aaron shared amusing anecdotes from his centuries-long life as a vampire.

By evening, the city lights began to glow, painting the streets in a golden hue. Aaron led Rune to a lighthouse by the harbor, its tall frame silhouetted against the vibrant colors of the setting sun.

“This is my favorite spot,” Aaron said, his voice softer now. “It’s peaceful, don’t you think?”

Rune nodded, stepping closer to the railing to take in the breathtaking view. The waves shimmered under the fading sunlight, and the city lights twinkled in the distance.

“I can see why you like it here,” Rune said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Aaron moved closer, standing beside Rune as the breeze carried the salty scent of the ocean. There was a quiet intimacy in the moment, and Rune’s heart began to race as he felt Aaron’s presence so near.

“You’ve been on my mind,” Aaron confessed suddenly, his voice low and sincere.

Rune turned to face him, startled by the admission. “I… You’ve been on mine too,” he admitted, his cheeks heating up.

Aaron smiled, stepping closer until their faces were only inches apart. Rune’s breath hitched, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still.

“Rune,” Aaron murmured, his hand gently brushing against Rune’s cheek. “May I?”

Rune barely had time to nod before Aaron leaned in, capturing his lips in a soft but passionate kiss. The world melted away as Rune felt himself leaning into the touch, his hands clutching Aaron’s jacket. Aaron’s kiss was intoxicating—warm, firm, and full of unspoken emotions.

But as the kiss deepened, Rune suddenly froze. Reality crashed down on him like a tidal wave. He had kissed a vampire—something strictly forbidden by law. Panic set in, and Rune pulled back abruptly, his eyes wide and brimming with tears.

“No,” Rune whispered, shaking his head. “I… I can’t do this.”

Aaron’s expression shifted to concern. “Rune, what’s wrong?”

“I kissed a vampire,” Rune said, his voice trembling. “This… this is against the law. I—” His voice cracked as tears rolled down his cheeks.

“Rune, it’s not—” Aaron tried to reach out, but Rune stepped back.

“I’m sorry,” Rune choked out before turning and running down the path, his heart pounding in his chest.

Aaron stood there, his hand still outstretched, watching helplessly as Rune disappeared into the distance. The night air felt colder now, the warmth of their shared moment replaced by an aching emptiness.
