Derek walks out with Hotch to the living room after you've been asleep for a while. Derek leaves the door cracked open just in case you have another nightmare. Hotch runs a hand through his hand.
"Hotch. What's going on with her?" Derek asks. He's obviously concerned.
"I don't know. I don't know how to help her." He was the most frazzled Derek has ever seen.
"Alright, Hotch. You gotta calm down. I've never seen you like this. You're doing the best you can, she knows that. The demons she's battling... they're not gonna go away easily. The best we can do and assure her she's not alone and that she's safe. We can only give it time." Derek says looking at Hotch brings himself together.
"Derek." Hotch never uses his first name. "I don't know how to convince her she's safe when I'm not sure she is." He says firmly. There is a hint of glossiness in eyes.
"What do you mean?" Derek says firmly. Hotch doesn't answer. "What do you mean Hotch? Are you saying that beautiful, young, 28 year old girl is not safe? So help me god, if you don't tell me what's going on-" Derek was pointing to the door of your bedroom.
"She thinks that someone is after her. She told me this is confidence. She knows the only way I would share this information was if her life was on the line." Hotch stops for a second collecting his thoughts.
"You know I won't tell anybody. Her safety is my top priority. If you know anything that is going to jeopardize that, I need you to tell me." Derek says to Hotch. He wasn't asking, he was telling.
"Danielle was working to find people in a terrorist group. You've heard of the groups that have been picking off higher ups overseas." Hotch mentions.
"Yes. But that's all that happened in those countries, nothing will happen in the US. Why is she afraid? They don't know her specifically." Derek says confused.
"They do know her." Hotch breaks.
"What do you mean?" Derek says sternly.
"Someone who used to run her regiment went missing last year in the field and when she was back over there that's who took her hostage. A few of them committed treason and have been killing people in the army. She killed one of the tem but the higher up got away. She thinks that he will come after here." Derek sighs and puts his hand on his eyebrow.
"So now this girl has a terrorist after her? When is she going to catch a break? What do we do?" He asks Hotch.
"There isn't anything we can do. She wasn't allowed to tell us anything from the case and right now the military has not reason to believe that these terrorist groups would be able to make it to the States. If it is found out she told us or we are looking into anything she could face charges." Hotch admits.
"So our hands are tied! We are just supposed to hope that no one comes and kills her?" Derek says angrily. He was tired.
"We can work on this ourselves. I have contacts, I can pretend I am just looking into one of my agents. They don't have to know I have any idea about her mission. She can't know." Hotch proposed.
"Okay. I don't think that anyone can get to her here but if she is scared we have to do something. We need to focus our efforts on her." Derek sighed.
"I agree. Are you going to stay?" Hotch asked. He genuinely didn't know how to handle this.
"No. I'm only a few doors down. I think she will be good for the night. If anything changes you let me know." Hotch nodded to Morgan and he was gone. He sat on the couch and turned off the light trying to get some sleep. He didn't dare get into the bed. He was afraid to wake you. He wakes up the next morning, exhausted. He moves into your room and sits in the chair across the room, waiting for you to wake up.
