An hour or so of silence went by but you couldn't sleep. You were tossing and turning.
"Are you okay?" Hotch's words made you flinch.
"Yeah, can't sleep." You wish you could see him but it was dark.
"Are you in pain, Dani." He never calls you by your first name. He did see you naked so professionalism was an afterthought. You were in pain, not the physical but it hurt so bad.
"I'm sorry for being so hostile earlier." You muttered. You turned so you were facing away.
"You were hurt. I think I can let it slide." He said. It made you smile.
"I don't like hospitals." You said. He didn't say anything but you knew he was waiting for you to continue. "My brother died, it reminds me of him." You admitted.
"When?" He asked. You stayed silent for a second.
"Two months ago tomorrow." You admitted.
"Dani..."
"I know. I should have said something. I just wanted to pretend it didn't happen. That it wasn't real but after I saw the victim's sister.. She was in so much pain. Grieving like I never did." You said.
"How did it happen? I hope you know you can tell me anything." He said softly.
"Drunk driver. It happened the night we went to Clancy's. My brother's girlfriend called. I didn't know what had happened until I walked into his house. I went to the hospital and didn't hesitate to pull the plug. It wasn't him, Hotch. Half of his skull was missing, he didn't even have one of his arms when I went to reach for his hand." You whispered.
"I am so sorry." He said.
"I was gonna call you. I wanted to so bad but I didn't want to change what we had going on. What we had going. That was the best night of my life up until then, and then it was the worst." You let a tear fall.
"I wanted to call you. I wanted to tell you how much I needed that. How much I needed..." He trailed off.
"You don't have to say it. I felt the same." You said.
"Felt?"
"Feel, Aaron." You admitted. There was no use hiding it. "I trust you with my life. I look for you in every room. I miss you when I go home from work."
"Can I lay with you, Dani?"
"Please." You answered. He got out of his bed and slid in behind you. You turned over to him and buried your head in his chest. He wrapped his hand around your neck and brought you closer. Like he was shielding you from something. It was the best sleep you've ever had.
You woke up and didn't open your eyes. Hotch must have been awake because he was caressing your back. He planted a kiss into your hair and you hummed. No point in feigning sleep.
"Thought I dreamt this." You said into his chest.
"You must have dreamt something else because you were mumbling all sorts of things." You whipped your head up to his. He just smiled.'
"I hate you." You huffed.
"Oh I don't think you do." He said.
"Oh, is that so." You moved to get on top of him.
"Dani.." It was a warning. "You're hurt."
" I was just trying to see the time." You said, looking over to the clock on the nightstand. "7:24, we have an hour until we have to leave," You said as you leaned down.
"I don't want to hurt you." He said, hand going up your back. Your lips were inches away from his. You were about to close the gap when he did it first. The kiss was deep and slow. It was everything you could ever want. He moved you so you were on your back.
"I wouldn't want you to bleed on the sheets." He smiled on your lips.
"You just want control." You kissed him.
"Now who's profiling who." He took over the kiss and moved down to your neck. You let out a moan. Arching your back, you moved your hand up his chest. Your breathing was quick. He moved back to your lips and you moved your hand down to his waistband. He stopped you.
"This is about you." He said moving his hand to grab your breast. You moaned again. You put your leg over his back and tried to pull him closer. You could feel his erection where you wanted him.
"This is what I want." You mumbled between breaths. He kept his grip on your good leg that was now around your back. You tried to move your other leg but you flinched. He stopped all of his movements.
"Danielle," He warned.
"I'm fine." He gave you a look. "I promise." You nodded.
"Not like this. I want the dinner at the Italian place. I want the bottle of wine." He admitted. "I want more for you, you deserve more." You stroked his face. You nodded. He gave you a last slow kiss and moved off of you. He moved back off of you and laid on the bed. You turned over content, thinking he would leave to get dressed but he moved behind you, armed draped over your stomach.
"I thought Agent Hotchner was an early riser?" He put his head next to yours and pulled you closer.
"I think I can make an exception." He smiled. There was a comfortable silence. How long would this last? Was he pitying you? Was this just a short term thing? There were rules after all.
"I can hear your thoughts racing, what's wrong?" He sat up, arm never leaving you. You rolled over on your back.
"I don't want this to end. If this is just a fleeting feeling for you, I need to know. I don't think I can do this if it's over before it begins. I don't think I will survive this, I know I won't surv-"
"It isn't." He sat up fully, arm leaving your waist to touch your face. "You know I would never lie to you. I want this. I've wanted you for longer than you've wanted me. I won't ever hurt you, Dani." He rested his forehead on yours. You never wanted this feeling to end.
