"Mister, get out of the way." Dabi spoke, and I noticed how he held out his hands and fired his flames at the kids. "Rodger!" Compress said and teleported himself away from the kids. "Idiot, that's close!" Compress complained. Twice attacked Todoroki, and Toga approached Izuku. Where Dabi set his flames before, there was now a small marble, and Compress then appeared out of nowhere. "Ow...I can't believe you flew so far to chase after me. Your ideas are far out!" He complained about the students. "Where's Bakugo?" Dabi asked him. Compress went through his pocket. "Of course...HUh." He said when he realized the marble was gone. "Midoriya, Todoroki, we're running away! I'm sure now based on what he just did—I don't know what your quirk is, but inside that pocket of yours that you kept flaunting were these. Tokoyami and Bakugo, right, entertainer?" The boy with six arms asked as he held out the marmels. "Oh, that didn't take you very long! As expected from someone with six arms! You're good at feeling around!" Compress yelled, and Todoroki made a huge ice wall as a shield, and they started running away. Dabi already wanted to set the ice on fire when Compress stopped him. "No, wait." Compress said, and Dabi lowered his hand.
I guess the Nomu they talked about earlier appeared, and they ran in another direction. When in front of them, Kurigiri appeared. "It has been five minutes since the signal. Let us go, Dabi." Kurigiri said "Sorry, see you later, Izuku!" Toga yelled and entered the portal. Twice also jumped through, and Compress wanted to walk through the portal too when Dabi stopped him. "Wait, our goal is not yet." "Oh, that? They seemed so happy that they rushed out of here, so I thought I'd give them a present. It's a habit, one of the basics of magic. When I flaunt something..." He said and pulled off his mask a little. "It's because there's something I don't want you to see." And when he stuck out his tongue, there were the two little marbels in his mouth. Compress snipped, and the two murmels turned into ice. "Wow, compress, you're really great!" I yelled out. "My ice?!" Todorocki said confused. "That's right. During the freezing attack, I prepaired some dummies and put them in my right pocket. "If you discover that what was in my right hand was in my right pocket, then of course, you'd rush happily over." He said and slowly walked backwards into the portal as the kids ran at us. "And now, that's all from me-" He wanted to say when a lazer hit him in the face, and from the bush I saw a kid. "Compress!" I yelled and quickly pulled him over to me.
The boy with six arms catched one of the marbels, and before Todoroki could catch it, Dabi snatched it away. "That's sad... Shoto Todoroki... Confirm it now. release this." Dabi told Compress. We were already standing in the portal as Izuku ran straight at us to get the marbel. "My show's been ruined." Compress said annoyed and snipped. Now Katsuki and Tokyoami were back to normal, and Katsuki was right next to me. Dabi grabbed him by the neck. "No problem." Dabi said and pulled him back with us into the bar.
Back in the bar, I quickly ran away from Dabi and Katsuki to hide from him. I don't want him to notice me. They chained him up to the wall, and we went to sleep for the day while I hugged Ash close. I held him in my arms as I turned in my bed over and over again.
I couldn't sleep. My mind kept racing after everything that had happened. Seeing Katsuki again... It was like a punch to the gut. Part of me wanted to run to him, to tell him everything, to somehow make him understand why I had ended up here. But another part of me knew that wasn't possible. Not anymore. I turned over again, hugging Ash closer, the cat's soft purring doing little to calm my nerves.
Finally, I'd had enough. I needed to talk to someone. And for some reason, the first person that came to mind was Dabi. I threw the blanket off and quietly slipped out of bed. The hideout was mostly quiet now, the rest of the League asleep or doing their own thing.
I headed towards Dabi's room, my footsteps light as I moved through the dimly lit hallways. I didn't even know what I was going to say to him, but I just... I needed someone to talk to, and Dabi was the only one who felt even remotely approachable right now. He always had this way of being blunt and honest, and right now, that's what I needed.
When I reached his door, I hesitated for a moment before lightly knocking. There was a pause, then I heard a rough voice from the other side. "What is it?" I slowly opened the door and peeked inside. Dabi was sitting on the edge of his bed, leaning back against the wall, a cigarette burning between his fingers. His blue eyes flicked up to meet mine, a slight frown on his face.
"What do you want, Katsu?" he asked, sounding more annoyed than curious. I swallowed, feeling a bit awkward now that I was actually here. "I... I couldn't sleep." Dabi raised an eyebrow, his gaze narrowing slightly. "So you came to me? What do you think I'm going to do—sing you a lullaby?"
I rolled my eyes, stepping into the room and closing the door behind me. "No, I just... I don't know. I needed to talk to someone. About... about everything."
He sighed and took a drag from his cigarette before motioning for me to sit down. I hesitated, then moved over to the edge of his bed, sitting down a few feet away from him. Ash was on lap again and curled up against my legs. The silence between us felt heavy, like there was so much I wanted to say but didn't know where to start.
"You're thinking about your brother, aren't you?" Dabi finally said, his voice low and calm. I nodded, staring down at my hands. "Yeah... I didn't think I'd see him again. Not like this." Dabi flicked ash from his cigarette; his gaze is focused on me now. "You're worried he'll recognize you." "Yeah... I don't know how to handle this. What if he does? What if he sees me and knows?"
Dabi was quiet for a moment before he spoke again, his tone more serious than usual. "He won't recognize you. Not as you are now. You're not the same person, Katsu. You've changed. You're one of us now."
I bit my lip, trying to hold back the surge of emotions that came with his words. He was right, of course. I wasn't Katsumi Bakugo anymore. I was Katsu, a member of the League of Villains. But hearing that out loud made it feel more real, more permanent. "I just... I don't know if I'm ready for this," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "I don't even know who I am anymore."
Dabi glanced at me, his expression softening just a little. "You're still figuring it out. That's normal. No one's got everything sorted out, Katsu. You think any of us know exactly who we are? We just do what we have to, and we survive. That's all there is to it." I looked over at him, surprised by how genuine he sounded. It wasn't like Dabi to be this... open. But I appreciated it. He wasn't sugarcoating anything, just telling me the harsh truth.
"I guess you're right," I said, feeling a little better. "I just... I don't want to mess this up. I don't want to be the weak link." "You're not," he said firmly, taking another drag from his cigarette. "You're tougher than you give yourself credit for. And if you weren't, you wouldn't be here."
I smiled a little, feeling a warmth in my chest at his words. Coming from Dabi, that meant something. He didn't throw compliments around easily, so when he said something like that, I knew he meant it. "Thanks," I said quietly, looking down at my hands again.
Dabi didn't say anything, but the silence between us felt more comfortable now. I leaned back against the wall, closing my eyes for a moment. The weight of everything still pressed down on me, but somehow, being here, in this room with Dabi, made it feel a little less overwhelming.
After a while, I felt my eyelids getting heavier. I hadn't realized how tired I was until now. I shifted slightly, feeling the exhaustion from the day's events finally catching up to me. "Hey, Dabi..." I murmured, my voice trailing off as sleep started to pull at me. "What?" "Is it okay if I... stay here for a while?" He glanced at me, his expression unreadable for a moment before he shrugged. "Do whatever you want. Just don't expect me to tuck you in."
I smiled faintly, already half asleep. "I won't..." And with that, I let myself drift off, feeling the strange but comforting presence of Dabi beside me as I fell asleep in his room.
