I had grabbed him by his throat and held a knife against his throat. "Family..." I echoed, heart racing. "What, family? We haven't been a family in a year, Katsuki. We've been strangers. You don't know me, and I don't know you."
"But we can change that!" he pleaded, taking a step closer. "We can rebuild! We can be siblings again! I don't want to lose you; I just got you back!"
I felt a pang of longing for the bond we once had. "You think it's that easy?" I asked, voice trembling. "You think I can trust you? After everything?"
"I can't change the past, but I can change the future!" he shouted, his voice filled with desperation. "We can be family again! We can support each other! Please, Katsumi!"
His words struck a chord deep within me, and for a moment, I could almost see the light of hope flickering in the darkness. But then the memories flooded back—the pain, the neglect, the loneliness.
Family is supposed to be a sanctuary, a place where you're cherished, seen, and heard. Yet, all I felt was a growing distance, a chasm of unspoken words and missed connections. I thought about the countless times I stood in his shadow, longing for his acknowledgment and for his love. Was family merely a label, or did it carry a deeper significance? Did it mean unconditional support, understanding, and the willingness to be there for one another through thick and thin?
I remembered my time with the League of Villains. At first, it had seemed like a dark choice, a rebellion against everything I had known. But among the chaos, I found people who accepted me, who saw me for who I was—not just the shadow of Katsuki Bakugo. We were misfits, all of us, and in that strange camaraderie, I discovered a different kind of family. I felt comfortable, valued, and, for the first time in my life, I felt like I belonged.
"No, actually, I know what family is," I said, looking Katsuki in the eyes. "It's a place or a person I feel comfortable with. With the League, I found that comfort, that acceptance, even in the midst of chaos. We laughed, we fought, and we stood together against the world. They didn't judge me for my past; they embraced my pain and made me stronger."
I then stepped away from him and put the knife back into my pocket. "It always was about ruling the world... but when I now remember the times when we weren't big, when it was just us nine, we didn't have to rule the world; it was perfect the way it was." I mumbled.
Katsuki's face fell, and the hurt was evident. "Katsumi... please..."
I turned away, feeling the weight of my decision. "I need to go. I have to be with Dabi. I can't lose him to this chaos, too."
As I walked away, I could hear Katsuki's voice breaking behind me. "You can't just leave! You're my sister!"
I paused, taking a deep breath, my heart aching. "I'm not your sister anymore, Katsuki. I'm sorry. Maybe one day we can find a way back to each other. But right now, I need to find Dabi."
With that, I sprinted toward where I could see the sky slowly turning blue at the end of the horizon. I had to get to him before it was too late. I could feel the heat of the battlefield around me, but all I could think about was Dabi and the storm he was about to unleash.
As I approached, I could see Dabi preparing for an explosive confrontation with Endeavor. The flames danced around him, and I could sense the pain and rage bubbling beneath the surface. "Dabi!" I called out, fear gripping my heart. "You can't do this!"
He turned, his eyes flashing with intensity. "Katsumi! Stay back! I can't let him get away with what he did!"
"Please, listen to me!" I pleaded, rushing closer. "You don't have to do this! This isn't the way! You'll destroy yourself!"
"I don't care!" he yelled, flames flickering dangerously around him. "He took everything from me! I'm not going to let him live!"
"Dabi, please! I can't live without you! I need you!" I yelled at him. I noticed that Shoto was next to me. He looked like he was about to attack me. "Listen here, hero. Help me get up to him! I need to stop him!" I yelled at him, and he looked at me suspiciously. "Where is Katsuki!?" He yelled. "Uhg! He's fine! Now help me before he'll kill himself!" I yelled, and Shoto then made an ice wall that blasted me into the air right at Dabi.
"Dabi! Focus on me!" I shouted, and I hugged him as we both hung in the air. He was so fucking hot, and he grew warmer every second. "Remember the League? Remember when it was just us against the world? That was a family. We fought for each other, not against each other!"
The flames flickered again, and for the first time, I could see the hesitation in Dabi's eyes. "But that was different! We were in control then. Now... it feels like I'm losing everything!"
I took a deep breath, grounding myself. "No, you're not! We're still here! I'm here! I believe in you, Dabi! I believe we can make it through this together. You're not just fire; you're more than that. You're my Dabi, the one who shows me what it means to be strong, to fight for something worth protecting."
Finally, he looked at me, and I saw a flicker of the old Dabi beneath the rage. "Katsumi... I... I don't want to lose you."
"Then don't lose me!" I yelled at him, "We've lost! Dabi! We've lost this battle, but we don't have to lose each other!" I yelled at him, and I noticed he looked at me intensely. "Please." I said, and he slowly sank to the floor.
As Dabi's flames slowly began to die down, the tension in the air shifted. I felt his body relax, the heat dissipating as he let go of his rage, and I held him tighter, relief washing over me. But the moment was short-lived, as a voice pierced through the chaos.
"Hey! What's going on here?"
I turned to see Twice, with Ash in his hands, his eyes wide as he took in the scene. Behind him, Toga and Compress followed, their expressions a mix of confusion and concern. They had wounds all over their body but looked fine after all.
"T-Toga! Compress!" I gasped, feeling an unexpected rush of joy at seeing them. "You're okay!"
"Of course, we're okay!" Toga exclaimed, her voice brightening the somber atmosphere. "What's happening? Is Dabi alright?"
Twice staggered forward, eyes darting between me and Dabi. "I saw the flames, and I thought—"
I let go of Dabi and rushed toward Twice, grabbing him by the shoulders. "You're awake! I thought we lost you!"
"I'm way to strong to die! I almost saw the light!" He said with his split personality. I laughed at him and hugged him tightly. Toga then also approached us and hugged the both of us. "I'm so happy you're all fine." I told them happily. I also went to hug Compress. "You look horrible!" I said as I laughed at him. "Look at yourself; you don't look better!" He said with a grin.
I then heard steps behind us and turned around to see the heroes. Endeavor, Shoto, and a few smaller heroes. "Shigaraki will know what he's doing." I said with a soft smile, and I then held my hands out for the heroes to put the cuffs on my hand. The others did the same, and the heroes looked at us suspiciously. "We have everything we need. We've lost." I said, and soon we were all cuffed up.
We actually were in cuffs, but Toga and Twice were running around me while a hero tried to grab them. "Come back here!" The hero yelled as he ran after them and I laughed at the sight while Dabi looked annoyed and Compress watched with a grin.
"You two are impossible," I called out to Toga and Twice, laughing as they continued their game of cat and mouse.
