The days without Toga and Twice were super boring. We were expecting an attack from the heroes in the next few days, maybe even today. When it's happening, Toga and Twice will tell us, and we'll get them and kill that overhaul. While waiting, I was sitting on Dabi's lap on the ground with my back against his chest. In front of me sat Compress, and the both of us were playing cards, and he was showing me a few tricks.
The dimly lit room was filled with the sounds of shuffling cards and the occasional soft laughter. I felt a sense of calm, a welcome distraction from the looming threat of the heroes. Dabi's warmth surrounded me, and I leaned back against him, feeling secure despite the tension that hung in the air.
"Okay, watch closely," Compress said with a sly grin, his hands deftly maneuvering the cards. "This is how you make someone think they've got the upper hand." He flicked his wrist, and with a flourish, he made one of the cards disappear, only to have it reappear behind my ear. "Ta-da!"
I giggled, genuinely impressed. "How did you do that?" I asked, turning my head to look at him, my eyes wide with curiosity.
"It's all about misdirection," he replied, winking. "You distract them with one hand while the other does the real work." He continued to show me more tricks, and I was completely engrossed in the playful atmosphere.
Dabi, however, seemed less interested in the card tricks and more focused on the door, his brow furrowing as he listened intently. I could feel the tension radiating from him, and I turned my head slightly to see the concern etched on his face.
"Dabi, you okay?" I asked softly, reaching up to touch his cheek. He turned his gaze to me, and for a moment, the weight of the world seemed to lift as our eyes met.
"I'm fine," he replied, but I could see through the facade. "Just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don't like sitting around doing nothing."
"I get that," I said, nodding in understanding. "But we need to be ready. When Toga and Twice call, we'll know it's time to move. Until then, let's enjoy this moment."
Compress chimed in, grinning. "Yeah! You two should lighten up! There's no point in worrying when you can have fun." He shuffled the cards again and dealt them out, setting up for another round. "Let's see who's got the best poker face!"
I laughed, feeling the camaraderie among us. We started playing, and I tried my best to keep a straight face, even as Dabi's breath tickled my neck every time he leaned in to peek at my cards.
A sudden noise at the entrance caught our attention, and we all turned to see Shigaraki walking through the door. "It's time. Get ready." Shigaraki said, and we took a truck, Spinner, earlier had stolen from the street. He was driving, and Dabi, Shigaraki, and I went in the back. We parked somewhere and waited for the perfect moment, when Overhaul would be transported by the heroes. And when Compress finally got in the truck and we started driving, I got very excited. The man, Overhaul, killed Magne right in front of us and destroyed Compress's arm. Even though Compress got a new arm from these people, I'm still upset about it, and I want that man to feel pain. Just pain.
We were driving in front of the truck with Overhaul, and Shigaraki was on the roof of the car. The big backdoors opened. "In Shogi, the point is to get the king, right?" Shigaraki asked. "It's not that simple." Dabi told him. "Yeah, they're here just like you said. To get from the Hassaikai to the nearest villain hospital, it's fast to use this highway. Thanks for letting us know. " Compress said through the phone and then hung up.
"Hey, lizard, Stop weaving! I get motion sick," Dabi yelled at him from the back. "Don't call me lizard! I'm spinner!" Spinner yelled annoyed. "What are you getting mad for!? Shut up!" Dabi yelled back, and I looked at him with raised eyebrows. Dabi gave me a smirk and then focused on the police. "Now..." He mumbled and held up his fire to enlight a huge flame. One of the police cars drove in front of the huge on and shielded it with sand. "A hero...of course there'd be one." Shigaraki said annoyed. "Spinner! Slow down!" He said, and Spinner did as he was told.
Shigaraki jumped down from the truck and right into the sand of the hero. He now wasn't able to touch the man with his five fingers. "He's famous, huh?" Dabi said. "Shigaraki is the misdirection, in other words, the decoy. Let's go." Compress said and threw one of his marbels to the car; it then turned into a huge rock under the car and the car went flying through the air. Dabi took my by my waist and gently jumped out of the car.
Shigaraki landed on the car and made the car crash into the next wall. The hero quickly safed the officer in the car, and Dabi then stood behind him. "That's right. Heros end up prioritizing lives. Recently burned corpses have been turning up one after another in various places. First the 16-year-old girl, and then many more followed." The hero said. "Oh, are you talking about me?" Dabi asked, amused. "That makes me happy." He said. "Have you ever thought about the feelings of those you left behind?!" The hero asked. And again I turned angry at the statement of a hero. "And have you ever thought about the feeling of the people who get left behind?!" I asked him with a sharp voice and slowly walked up to him. He then turned around and went to attack us. Dabi pulled me back to his chest and blasted fire in his direction as he did the same with sand. But suddenly the villain turned into a marbel, and Compressed appeared.
"That's hot... Sand doesn't burn, does it?" Compress said. "From what it looks like he could only make the top half of his body sand, so he'll probably die." Dabi said and then turned to me. "Now you, don't just run at heroes without thinking. He could've hurt you." He scolded me and slapped me on the back of my head. "Sorry, Dabi." I mumbled, and he sighed as he pulled me in a hug. "Just stay close to me." He said and pulled me over to Shigaraki.
