It was seven in the evening when the lawyer dropped him off at home. As they pulled up, the house was all lit up. "The caretaker is here," the lawyer remarked with a nod. "It's nice to have someone around with you."

"You don't have to accompany me upstairs, Attorney. Goodnight and I appreciate your help," Zhan said and then got out of the car. He stood by until the old man's vehicle drove away before making his way into the yard and up the stairs.

He was about to knock when the door opened. A small and old woman appeared. She greeted him with a warm smile. "Good evening! I noticed your luggage in Mr. Tang San's room, so I figured you must be here..."

"Good evening too, are you the caretaker here?" (I chose not to name her, just a simple caretaker, it's hard to think of too many character's names 😆)

"Indeed, I am! You must be the grandson of Mr. Tang San's cousin. What is your name?" She gently closed the door again after Zhan had entered.

"I am Zhan. Have you eaten yet?" he asked as he crossed the house towards the room.

"I just got some takeout. Would you like me to grab you something from outside?"

"There's really no need for that. I just want to sort out my belongings in the closet. Which room do you occupy?" He was aware that the large house had four rooms upstairs.

He remembers a small room downstairs from his childhood, which was always kept neat, even when it wasn't occupied.

"I'm not staying here, son," the caretaker stated, Zhan, raising his eyebrows in surprise and halting his steps.

"Attorney and I agreed that I come here to clean the house about two days a week," explained the old woman. "Every Monday and Saturday. Today is Tuesday but I came over briefly to ensure the place is tidy for you. I'll be back again on Saturday."

Zhan gave a nod. "In that case, you can head home since it's getting late."

"I was just waiting for you. If there's nothing else you need from me, I'll be on my way now."

"I'm all good, don't worry," Zhan assured the caretaker.

"I'll be closing this door to the balcony now," the caretaker said.

"Don't forget to lock the door downstairs when I leave. Also, I took Mr. Tang San's belongings out of the closet and placed them in the boxes in the other room.

"Thank you, and I'll manage the windows." Zhan stopped for a moment, wondering if it was wise to sleep here.
