"Who gave you that ring?" Zhan was slightly startled, not expecting to see Wen Qing standing at his door.
"That's from Lan Wangji, isn't it Wuxian?" Her tone dripped with accusation and resentment. "And I noticed that you are not wearing your engagement ring. that Wangyin gave you, where is it?"
Zhan wondered if there was an engagement ring.
"It's in my jewelry box, Wen Qing."
"And you're wearing Lan Wangji's ring. You're playing with fire, Wuxian. I hope you don't get burned. I hope no one else gets hurt in this mess. I hope you didn't give Lan Wangji any false hopes."
When Wen Qing left the room, Zhan couldn't take his eyes off the door for a moment then he went to the dresser and opened the drawer. He pulled out the jewelry box and opened it. From the jewels among there, he picked up a ring. He didn't know why he was sure it was Wuxian and Wangyin's engagement ring. Just like Lan Wangji's, it had a classic round-cut diamond. With a heavy sigh, he placed the ring back in the box.

It was the day Lan Wangji and Zhan were supposed to leave. He was pacing around his room when he heard a gentle knock, just as the door swung open. "Aren't you ready yet?" Wen Qing asked, her eyes widen as she saw Zhan wearing a modern tight jeans and a T-shirt. "What kind of weird clothe is that, Wuxian? From where did you even get it?"
"I bought it from... my American classmate..."
"Is that the trend in the US? Why don't I see other young American girls wearing that?"
"Oh, Wen Qing," Zhan replied with a sigh. "Don't pay attention to what I'm wearing."
Wen Qing frowned in confusion. "Aren't you headed to University?"
Ugh, I've got a headache and I don't think I can make it to class today. Can you please tell the teachers for me?"
Wen Qing didn't say a word, just kept her gaze fixed on him. Zhan couldn't hold her stare and looked away. Then, Wen Qing quietly left and closed the door.
As Wen Qing reached the gate, she stopped in her tracks at the sight of Wangyin's car. She couldn't help but shake her head, unable to grasp why her cousin's heart falls for Lan Wangji when they hardly knew anything about him apart from the fact that he was once a student of Wei Changze before the old man retired. Sure, Lan Wangji is a decent and attractive guy, but isn't judging someone just by their looks a bit shallow when it comes to trust?
Wangyin comes from a prominent family, and most importantly they knew more than they knew Lan Wangji.
"Hey Wen Qing, are you heading to class? Why aren't you with Wuxian? Is he still up in his room?"
"He's skipping class today, Wangyin," Wen Qing replied. "Your fiance is not feeling well."
"Is that so?"
"Why are you here so early?" asked Wen Qing
"I just wanted to tell Wuxian that my big brother is here. We're planning to take Wuxian out for dinner tonight. You should join us, Wen Qing."
Wen Qing smiled sadly. "Thanks, Wangyin, but I really can't make it tonight. I have to study for my exams. I'm heading out now, but you should go inside, Wuxian is upstairs."
