"No way, Dad, I'm not going back to US with you," Zhan stubbornly refused. They are in Tang San's house in Beijing.

"And you can't make me. I threw my passport in the sea. And I won't cooperate to get a new one no matter what you do!"

Fengmian was taken aback as he looked at his son. "You threw your passport into the sea!" he said, filled with disbelief. "I can't believe you are defying me just because of that Lan, Sean Zhan."

Zhan looked around the whole house. "I really need to get this place fixed up. That's why I came to China in the first place."

"But that's not your only reason anymore. You really don't want to part ways with that Lan!" Fengmian said, trying to calm down.

Zhan's smile was pretty bland. "Going away, Dad? Do you really think Yibo can't fo the US to see me?"

"He couldn't even come near you! I am warning you, Sean Zhan. Don't force me to do something inappropriate."

"Fengmian, please." it was Yizuan who spoke for the first time. "Why don't we try to talk this over calmly? Plus, your son is right, Quiren's son can easily travel to the US to see Zhan."

"Do you think your son needs some gentleness this time around?" Fengmian turned to his wife. "And have you gone mad?" disbelief in his eyes while looking at his wife. "You... You, more than anyone else, should advise your son to forget that man!" After he said that, Fengmian quickly left.

Yizuan looked at Zhan and said, "Zhan, you must understand where your dad is coming from. I was married to Quiren for more than two years he married me. It's hard for your father to accept that the family I wanted to forget during the first period of our marriage is now involved with you."

"So what?" Zhan said in frustration. "That's a very shallow reason, Mommy. Yibo and I love each other. Our situation isn't the same as yours and that happened a long time ago. You have a happy life with my father now. So, I don't understand why he doesn't want me to be happy, too."

"Right now, your dad can't understand that easily, son. Just give him a little time..."

Zhan stayed silent, lost in thought as he gazed at the portrait of Tang San on the stairs. No, Zhan thought frantically. I won't spend my life alone. I'll do whatever it takes to fight my love for him, Grandpa... No matter what happens...

It's been two weeks since they got back to Beijing, and he let Yibo know that his parents have no plans to go back to the US without him.

"I missed you so, my love..." Yibo on the other line, pacing around his room. "Mom and Dad are heading back to Beijing tomorrow, and I'm going with them. I want to see you..."

"Me, too. But no-" but before he could finish, Fengmian grabbed the phone from him and disconnected the call.

"Dad!"

"Enough of this nonsense, Zhan!" Fengmian shouted, fuming. "I won't let you be with that Lan, not on my watch."

"I don't understand you anymore, Dad!" Zhan said back. Fighting back the tears. "You won't even let us talk on the phone."

"He doesn't love you and you don't love him!"

"Why do you need to doubt how we feel about each other? It's our emotions to handle, not anyone else's." Zhan sobbed softly.

Just like your mom when she first met Lan Quiren. She thought she loved him. But what happened? Her marriage with Quiren was a total disaster. Without me, maybe Your mommy completely ruined herself..." Fengmian continued, trying to have his son understand the situation.

"And like his father, Yibo was handsome, debonaire, irresistible. You didn't stand a chance and fell for him..." Fengmian added.

"If you want to refer to Yibo's physical traits, then why didn't Ziyi fall for him!"

"Good for her," Fengmian answered flatly. "It seemed that your cousin was more sensible than you are..."

"Oh, Dad," Zhan said helplessly. "I don't want to hate you for doing this to me..." Fengmian raised his gaze, eyes locked on his son, can't believe what he just heard. Pain crossed his eyes.

Zhan let out a loud sigh. "Dad, I love you. And I know you want nothing but my happiness. But I want you to understand that he is my happiness."

"No." The anger and determination returned to Fengmian's voice. He quickly averted his gaze, not wanting Zhan to catch a glimpse of the fear and sadness etched on his face. "I'm done discussing this, Sean Zhan. Just forget about him. No matter what, I won't let you marry Quiren's son." He turned back after saying that.

"I hate you, Daddy!" Zhan exclaimed through his tears.

Fengmian flinched. He halted for a moment, and the throbbing pain in his chest was overwhelming. He squared his shoulders and walked out.

Yizuan secretly watched the father and son, her heart aching for her child. Still, she could not oppose her husband. When they first learned about Lan Wang Yibo and Zhan's engagement announcement, Fengmian had made his disapproval very clear.

Yizuan couldn't find anything to fault about Fengmian as a husband. His entire life revolves around Ziyuan and Zhan. He loved her, loved them both to a fault.

And she loved him... truly loved him. Fengmian made sure to give them whatever they desired, never saying no to her or Zhan. Even though she feels bad about what's going on with the father and son, she can't go against her husband.

Now, for the first time, he's actually said no, and she feels powerless to argue with him.
