Time: Who knows anymore
Place: The Top of the tower.
I watched the three children finish the last task that I set out for them. I could see the new glow that the weaker Vahn had given off upon rescuing his girlfriend and other half. I watched, on my monitors, as they ascended the last stairwell to my office, the place where I would put the last pieces of the ritual in place.
"Things were continuing to go according to play, albeit slightly delayed due to a misfortunate death earlier, but none the less, the results will be the same." I said a loud.
Before me, on the ground, lay an odd circle of geometric shapes with candles on each point that touched it. The completed book lay open standing on a pedestal at the head of the diagram open to the correct page ready to greet my guests.
I looked over all my equipment, and papers pacing back and forth making sure everything was ready.
They were almost here. I was almost giddy with excitement. I took a deep breath and walked over to my chair where a white lab coat stood. I couldn't decide if I wanted to present myself as an evil scientist or an evil wizard. Both were appropriate from their perspective.
"I'll stick with wizard for now."
The door handle began to jiggle.
"There here!" I hurried over to my throne just to the right of the book.
The door opened. The "evil Vahn" was the first to enter. His aura a red color. Following him was Tamara, her aura a soft blue color. And lastly the other Vahn, aura now a bright white. It was a yellow color earlier. He wasn't sure of himself, but now, it was white.
The red Vahn had his sword out read to strike. Tamara had her gun pointed at me almost immediately when she saw me, the white Vahn took a more cautious stance with the lance, maybe ready to parley.
With the flick of my wrist, all of their weapons flew from their hands and fell besides me. I found humor in the shock in their face. Red Vahn in particular, he was so angry and filled with blood rage.
I pulled my hood back reveling my deathly old face and white scraggly hair. Both of my hand rose up, a single old decrepit finger pointing to each of the boys. Their bodies stiffened and they began to walk towards me and into the circle I so neatly setup for them.
The girl was screaming at me now wanting me to to stop. It didn't matter.
The reached the center and I made them look at each other and hold each others hands. Then I began to read aloud the words on the book from the pages that were opened. The words were old, in a tongue that hadn't been used in hundreds of years. Maybe even a thousand. Words from a race that no longer belonged to this planet.
But I could read them, I practiced before I spoke them, making sure my tongue could fluidly read each word, each line was precision.
The candle flames turned black, and the circle began to glow an icy blue color. The light fully engulfed the two teenagers for a few moments as my voice rose above the torrent of wind now blowing through the room. Old magic was powerful, yet beautiful to behold. The words fell away as I completed the ritual, the wind died down as did the blue light revealing only one Vahn now, the original.
He fell to the floor, a side effect of being whole again. Tamara's screams had stopped once she realized what had happened. I looked through my special lens at Vahn, his aura all but gone now. It was Tamara's turn.
It happened so naturally. She walked into the circle by herself to grab Vahn. The circle trapped her, and I pushed Vahn out of the way with my mind. The ritual began again, the words different this time, shorter. I didn't have to merge two people together and then extract the essence. It was over in under a minute, my eye showed that her aura was gone.
