Later that night after watching the other reapings Avery decided unless Jasper really wants to that she doesn't want any other alliance.
The careers look like they'd be quick to backstabbing and the poorer districts look like they won't last very long.
Not to mention she doesn't want to get attached just to watch them die.

When finnick arrived it was getting quite late and Avery was almost falling asleep waiting for him.

He saw her head bobbing like she was fighting sleep from the doorway as he walked in.
He considered walking back out until she fell asleep so she wouldn't see him when he felt so disgusting.

But deep down he needed her presence more than anything else at the moment.

"Hey Aves, sorry I kept you waiting."
He said waking the redhead.

"Hey fin it's okay I-"  she started but stopped when she saw him. It looked like he'd been crying the whole way home to the district 4 apartment.

"Oh Finny come here.." she said getting up and wrapping his taller frame in the best Mags quality hug she could muster up.

"Let's just go to bed. I don't want other alliances, so there's not much to talk about anyway. Come on."

She led him to her room where she laid down on her back in bed and padded her belly as invitation for him to lay on her.

Kicking off his shoes he obeyed and she then covered the both of them in the thick capital bedding, ignoring the smell of perfumethat lingered in his hair.

Once she felt him start crying again she started to hum and run her fingers through his blond locks, after a whole of just lying there together his breathing evened out and she knew he was asleep.

Letting a few of her own tears slip for the broken boy in her arms avery took a shakey breath. Then wiping her eyes, she reached over turning off the bedside lamp and settled down to sleep.

The next morning was the first day of training and when Avery woke up finnick was gone and at the foot of her bed was her training outfit.

With a sigh she got up and got ready for the day. At breakfast she ate only a little so she wouldn't feel sluggish all day and listened as Mags told them to stick to the things they don't know and keep an eye on the other tributes to look for weaknesses.

It worried her that finnick hadn't come out so before leaving she made him a cup of lemon honey tea like she used to back in four and Mags smiled at her as she watched. Knowing that the blonde boy she had come to love as her own son was lucky to have someone who doted on him as much as her adopted daughter does.

After tapping on finnicks door and hearing nothing she walked in and immediately heard muffled sobs coming from the bathroom where the shower was running.

Saddened she just put the steaming cup on his nightstand and then noticed his outfit from the previous night in the trash.

"Oh fin..." she whispered shaking her head. Then leaving him to his own private moment, she left for training.
