As the teasing subsided, the group settled into a more relaxed mood. For the first time in a while, they let themselves forget about the looming threat of Mike. Sitting around the cozy room in Freen's mansion, with the storm outside fading into a light drizzle, it almost felt normal. Almost.
Becky sat beside Freen, feeling the weight of the past few days settle on her. She had been thrown into this strange new world, surrounded by danger and secrets, and yet she felt oddly at ease with Freen and his friends.
Noey, sensing the shift in mood, leaned back in his chair and smiled at Becky. "You know, we don't really know much about you, Becky. You've been with us through a lot already, but we never got the chance to hear about you. What's your story?"
Becky blinked, a little caught off guard by the question. She hesitated for a moment, unsure how much to share, but then she realized she owed them that. They'd been through hell together, after all.
"I guess my life's not that interesting," Becky began, her voice soft. "I... I don't really have anyone, not like you all. No family, at least. It's just been me and my best friend Irin for as long as I can remember. She's my only real family. We've always looked out for each other." She paused, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. "I didn't expect to get dragged into all this... chaos. But I'm glad I met you guys. Even though it's been terrifying, I feel like I finally have a place."
The room went quiet for a moment, as everyone absorbed Becky's words. There was something so honest, so raw about her confession. She really was a pure soul, someone who hadn't been hardened by the world yet.
Nam, who had been sitting quietly, looked over at Becky with soft eyes. "You're stronger than you think, Becky. Not many people would've handled all of this the way you have."
Becky smiled weakly. "Thanks, but... honestly, I'm just trying to survive."
Noey grinned. "You're doing more than just surviving. You've been right there with us through all the craziness. That takes guts."
Kade nodded in agreement. "Plus, you're here now. You've got us, whether you like it or not."
Becky chuckled, the warmth of their words settling in her chest. "I'm glad to hear that. I guess... I never really had a place where I belonged. But with you guys, it feels different."
As the conversation lingered, Freen, who had been unusually quiet, finally spoke up. His voice was softer than usual, tinged with something deeper.
"I know what it's like not to have anyone," he said, his eyes distant, lost in memory. The others turned to him, knowing that when Freen opened up, it was rare and important. Becky looked at him, waiting for him to continue.
"It was Mike," Freen began, his voice steady but pained. "Years ago, he took everything from me. My parents... they were good people. Kind. They ran the family business, but they weren't ruthless. They wanted to help people." He clenched his fists, as if the memory itself still caused him physical pain. "Mike wanted the business. He wanted power. My parents refused to sell, to give in to his demands, and he... he made sure they paid for it."
Freen swallowed hard, the weight of the memory thick in his throat. "He orchestrated a car accident. I was with them. I watched as it happened, as everything fell apart in front of me. My parents... they didn't make it."
Becky's breath caught in her throat, her heart aching at Freen's words. She couldn't imagine the kind of pain he had been carrying all this time.
"I survived, but I lost more than just them that day. I lost any sense of connection, of trust. I distanced myself from people, from everyone, because I couldn't let myself feel that kind of pain again." Freen paused, his eyes meeting Becky's. "But with you... it's different."
Becky's heart skipped a beat at the way he said it, his words hanging in the air between them. Freen had never been the type to let people in, but somehow, she had broken through.
"I don't know what it is," Freen continued, his brow furrowing slightly. "But from the moment I met you, I felt something. You're not like anyone I've ever met. It's... confusing. But I don't want to push you away."
Becky's eyes softened, her heart racing. She reached out and gently placed her hand over his, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "I'm not going anywhere, Freen."
The room was thick with emotion, everyone feeling the depth of Freen's confession. It was rare for him to open up, to expose the scars he had buried so deeply. But Becky had drawn it out of him without even realizing it.
As the moment lingered, Noey broke the silence, his voice light but filled with understanding. "So, Mike's after the business again, huh?"
Freen nodded, his jaw tightening. "Yeah. He wants control of what's left of my family's legacy. And he'll do whatever it takes to get it."
"Then we won't let him," Heng said firmly, his usual laid-back demeanor replaced with seriousness. "We're in this together, Freen. You know that."
Kade leaned forward, determination written across his face. "We've got your back, man. We'll figure this out, but you're not fighting Mike alone."
Becky, still holding Freen's hand, looked around at the group of friends who had become more like family. She felt the same determination rising within her. "We're not letting Mike take anything else from you, Freen. We'll stop him."
Freen glanced at Becky, something unspoken passing between them. He didn't fully understand what he was feeling, but he knew one thing for sure: Becky was different. She made him feel things he hadn't allowed himself to feel in years—hope, trust, and maybe even love.
As the group sat together, the weight of Mike's threat still loomed over them, but for the first time in a long while, Freen didn't feel so alone. With Becky by his side, and his friends rallying around him, he knew they stood a chance. Together, they would face whatever came next.
