Snooze By SZA
Lana blinked awake, momentarily disoriented in the unfamiliar hotel room. The soft morning light peeked through the curtains, and she glanced to the side, surprised to find an empty space beside her. Of course, Lando had already vanished. She could only assume he was at the gym—no doubt taking out his pent-up "big flight energy" on some poor treadmill.
Rolling her eyes, she grabbed her phone and dialed Nat, who picked up after barely one ring.
"Morning sleepyhead!" Nat teased- noticing Lana's disheveled look, her voice cheerful.
Lana laughed, rubbing her face. "Girl, listen, you're not gonna believe the trip I just had."
Whatever Nat was doing, she stopped and sat down. Eager to listen, she urged Lana on, "Go on."
"Long story short? The plane was basically a circus." Lana laughs. "Carlos was there with his girlfriend—ugh, don't get me started. And then Daniel started leading a 'flight survival guide,' calling it a spa day in the sky. He had slippers, eye masks, and, yes, Max was all-in. Azalea, too."
"Woah woah, they were all on that flight?" Nat questioned, taken aback by what she was hearing before stopping in her tracks with a realization, "Wait, Azalea?" Nat sounds intrigued. "The Azalea?"
"Yes, her. And get this—she knows about Lando and me being fake thanks to yours truly. But she's cool with it. And then, of course, I get to the hotel, and guess what? One bed." Lana sighs dramatically.
"One bed? Oh, this sounds juicy."
Lana snorted, "Keep it in your pants, Mr. Chivalrous offered me the couch when I raised concerns."
Nat let out a loud laugh. "Please tell me you made him sleep there."
"I tried! But I'm weak, and that couch was made for decoration, not sleeping. We ended up practically hugging the edges of the bed as if the middle was a no-man's land!"
"Oh my god, Lana," Nat wheezed between laughs. "So what's the plan now? How are you gonna survive this trip with 'Charming Lando'?"
Lana sighed, still smiling. "One day at a time. Starting with a very, very strong coffee."
They both laugh, Lana feeling a little lighter as she fills Nat in on every chaotic detail.
Soon after her call with Nat, Lana decided to get up and get moving. With Lando still missing in action, she figured a morning run was the perfect way to shake off any lingering travel fatigue.
She slipped into a matching black athletic set, braided her hair, and headed out of the hotel. Singapore was familiar territory, thanks to previous races, so she felt confident navigating the city streets solo. The air was warm, and the early hour kept the sidewalks clear as she fell into an easy rhythm.
About halfway through her run and feeling the satisfaction of the morning's pace, Lana heard her phone ring in her pocket. Without breaking stride, she tapped her AirPods to answer the call.
"Hello?" she greeted, slightly out of breath.
"Lana, hi! Just a quick—" Her manager, Aria, cut herself off, sounding mildly alarmed. "Wait... why are you out of breath?"
"Running," Lana replied, hoping Aria would get to the point.
"Oh, with Lando, I hope?" Aria asked, a hopeful edge creeping into her tone.
"Not quite. He was already gone when I got up," Lana replied coolly.
"Well, that's exactly what I needed to talk to you about. You two need to start posting together more," Aria insisted.
Lana sighed. "Aria, he's... difficult."
"Lana, it's part of both of your contracts," Aria said, leaving no room for negotiation.
Lana rolled her eyes as she slowed to a walk near the hotel, the sense of obligation settling in. She wrapped up her conversation with Aria and made her way back to their room.
Lana returned to the hotel room, her energy renewed from the run and already thinking about how to handle Aria's request. She opened the door to find Lando back from the gym, scrolling through his phone on the couch in a simple black outfit. He glanced up as she entered, raising a brow.
"Didn't expect you to be gone," he commented, barely hiding his surprise.
"Just a quick run," Lana replied, grabbing a towel to wipe off. "By the way, Aria called. We have to start posting together."
Lando groaned, tilting his head back in annoyance. "What does she expect us to post? Photos of us just... standing around?"
Lana rolled her eyes but smirked. "Please, you're talking to a professional here. Let me get changed quickly then we will go."
Lando looked skeptical as he questioned, "Go where?"
"Just the elevator," Lana replied from the bathroom.
Lando remained confused but went along with it.
"Follow me," she said a minute later. Reappearing from the bathroom in a casual black dress and her hair down now.
Lando obliged and they made their way down the hallway and into the elevator. As the doors closed, Lana nudged Lando into position next to her, facing the opposite way.
She grabbed his arm to wrap around her and held her phone up to snap a photo.
"We'll soft launch it. It'll keep everyone on their toes," she said, angling the phone for another.
Lando huffed a laugh but played along, leaning slightly closer.
"Perfect, just keep that up and let me handle the rest," she teased, glancing at the photo. It was perfect—effortlessly casual but just enough to keep their audience guessing.
Looking down, Lana realized Lando had kept his arm in position as he looked at the photo too. Lana then glanced up to him, "You can move your arm now."
"Yes ma'am," Lando said playfully as he quickly realized where he had kept his arm. He then pushed the elevator button to head back to their room as Lana arranged the Instagram story.
By the time they had arrived back to their room, Lana's phone was blowing up with friends and family replying to her story. She also did not doubt that the fans were screenshotting to start their investigation.
One particularly funny one was from her brother, Charles. He had sent one message saying: Who is that? Immediately followed by another: Where are you?
Lana couldn't help but giggle at this as she left him on open.
