Chapter Four: The Calm Before the Storm
It had been a few days since the big news broke about Jenna and Y/N joining the cast of *Scream*, and the dust had mostly settled. The initial rush of headlines, social media buzz, and congratulatory messages had begun to fade, allowing life to return to some semblance of normal. Jenna and Y/N had finally unpacked all their boxes in the apartment, and the space was starting to feel like home.
It was a bright Saturday morning, and sunlight poured through the windows, casting a warm glow over the hardwood floors. Y/N stood in the kitchen, already prepping breakfast, while Jenna was still in bed, buried under the covers.
She stirred slowly, blinking her eyes open as the scent of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. A small smile tugged at her lips as she stretched out, her hand reaching to the other side of the bed. Empty. She sighed contentedly, knowing exactly where Y/N was.
With a soft groan, Jenna kicked off the blankets and padded down the hallway in her oversized T-shirt, her hair a wild mess from sleep. She entered the kitchen to find Y/N standing at the stove, flipping pancakes. His back was turned, but she could see the slight sway in his stance, as if he was moving to a silent rhythm in his head.
Quietly, Jenna tiptoed up behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist, pressing her face into his back.
"Morning," she mumbled against his shirt.
Y/N chuckled, not surprised by her sudden appearance. He placed the spatula down and turned his head slightly to glance at her over his shoulder. "Morning, sleepyhead. You're up later than usual."
Jenna hummed in response, her grip tightening slightly as she buried her face deeper into his back. "I didn't want to get out of bed. It's too comfortable."
"Well, you're in luck," Y/N said, flipping the final pancake onto a plate and turning off the stove. "Breakfast is almost ready."
Jenna reluctantly let go and moved to sit at the small dining table. She watched as Y/N placed a stack of pancakes in front of her, then joined her with his own plate.
"You've outdone yourself," Jenna teased as she poured syrup over her pancakes. "What's the occasion?"
Y/N shrugged, taking a bite. "No occasion. Just figured we could enjoy a quiet morning before things get crazy."
Jenna nodded thoughtfully. She knew what he meant. Once filming for *Scream* started, their lives would once again be a whirlwind of long hours, traveling, and constant media attention. Right now, these moments of peace felt like the calm before the storm.
As they ate in comfortable silence, Jenna's mind wandered back to the conversation they had on the balcony a few nights ago. The one where she had finally told Y/N about the phone call and the offer for *Scream*. She had been hesitant at first, unsure if she was ready to dive into another major project so soon after *Wednesday*, but Y/N had reassured her. They'd be doing it together, after all.
"Do you think it's going to be weird?" Jenna asked suddenly, breaking the silence.
Y/N looked up, his fork halfway to his mouth. "What do you mean?"
"Filming *Scream* together," she clarified, setting her fork down. "I mean, it's a horror movie. A lot of intense scenes. We've never done something like that together."
Y/N considered her words for a moment before setting his fork down as well. "It'll be different, yeah. But I think it'll be fun. We know how to work together, and we'll have each other's backs. Plus, it's not like we're new to this."
Jenna smiled softly. "True. It's just... different now that we're—" She hesitated, the word lingering in the air for a moment. "Now that we're together."
Y/N reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "We'll figure it out. We always do."
Jenna's smile widened as she squeezed his hand, feeling the comfort and reassurance he always brought her. It was moments like this that reminded her why she had fallen for him in the first place. He always knew what to say, how to make her feel grounded when the chaos of their lives started to get overwhelming.
After breakfast, they spent the rest of the morning lounging around the apartment, enjoying the simplicity of being together without the demands of work or the outside world. It was rare for them to have such a peaceful day, and they intended to make the most of it.
By the time the afternoon rolled around, they were curled up on the couch, watching a random documentary on Netflix that neither of them was really paying attention to. Jenna had her head resting on Y/N's shoulder, her legs draped over his lap, while his fingers absentmindedly traced patterns on her arm.
As the documentary droned on in the background, Jenna's thoughts drifted back to the upcoming *Scream* shoot. Despite her earlier worries, there was a small spark of excitement growing inside her. The idea of stepping into such an iconic horror franchise, of working alongside Y/N in such an intense setting—it was exhilarating.
"I guess we're about to face our first real test as a couple," Jenna murmured, her voice soft but thoughtful.
Y/N glanced down at her, a small smirk playing on his lips. "You make it sound like we're going to war."
"In a way, we are," Jenna joked, nudging him playfully. "But seriously, this is going to be different. I've never done a project like this with someone I'm... you know, with."
"I get it," Y/N said, his tone understanding. "But I think that's what's going to make it great. We're a team, Jen. And if anyone can handle this, it's us."
Jenna looked up at him, her heart swelling with affection. "You always know what to say, don't you?"
Y/N shrugged modestly. "I try."
She smiled and leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. When she pulled back, she settled back into his arms, feeling a sense of peace wash over her. No matter what challenges lay ahead, she knew they'd face them together.
For now, though, they had the rest of the day to simply be Jenna and Y/N, two people in love, enjoying the quiet moments before life got hectic again.
And in that moment, that was all they needed.
