Chapter Twenty: An Unexpected Day Off
The warm midday sun filtered softly through the trailer's window blinds, casting a gentle light over Jenna and Y/N as they slept peacefully. For the first time in what felt like forever, there was no alarm, no rush to set, no immediate script to memorize. They were finally still.
Y/N woke up first, blinking his eyes open to check the time, only to be surprised by how late it was. He stretched, careful not to disturb Jenna, and reached for his phone. That's when he noticed a message from the director:
*Heard you both had a rough night. We can get by today without you two. Take the day off—rest, recharge, and be there for each other.*
Y/N exhaled a sigh of relief and put his phone back down, smiling to himself. He turned his gaze to Jenna, who was still fast asleep beside him, her breathing deep and steady. Her face was finally at ease, no longer showing the worry and stress that had weighed on her so heavily last night.
After a few minutes, Jenna stirred, slowly opening her eyes, blinking up at him. "Hey," she murmured, voice thick with sleep.
"Hey," he whispered back, a soft smile on his face. "Good morning... well, actually, afternoon."
Her eyes widened a little as she noticed the light streaming through the window. "Wait... what time is it?"
"Just past noon. I didn't wake you because we actually have the day off," he said, watching her face light up with surprise.
She sat up, still processing the news. "We do? How?"
He reached for her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "The director gave us a break after last night. Figured we could use some time to recover."
Jenna nodded, a grateful smile tugging at her lips. "That's... really nice of them. And probably exactly what I needed."
They spent a few minutes just basking in the stillness, letting the morning—or afternoon—slip by slowly. Y/N got up to make a quick breakfast, throwing together scrambled eggs and toast while Jenna took a few moments to fully wake up and join him in the kitchen nook.
As they sat down to eat, she glanced at him, her expression softer than usual. "Thanks for last night... for coming to find me and just... being there."
He reached across the small table, taking her hand. "Always. I'll always be there, Jenna. You don't have to go through anything alone."
She gave his hand a squeeze, comforted by the sincerity in his voice.
After breakfast, they decided to make the most of the unexpected free time. It had been a long while since they had a day to just be together without the pressures of work, schedules, or lines. They decided to explore the area a bit, heading out to a nearby park where they could just be themselves, away from cameras and scripts.
Jenna felt her spirits lift as they wandered through the quiet trails, stopping by a small pond and watching the ducks paddle around, laughing at Y/N's attempts to mimic the sounds. The worries and stresses from the night before seemed to melt away with each passing minute.
"Remember that time on set when we tried to act out the same scene three times because we couldn't stop laughing?" she asked, chuckling at the memory.
He laughed, nodding. "Oh, yeah. I thought the director was going to lose it after the fifth take. But in our defense, you kept making faces at me."
"Did not!" she protested, smirking as he raised a brow, clearly unconvinced. "Okay, maybe a little," she admitted, grinning.
They spent the rest of the afternoon just talking, laughing, and catching up on little things they hadn't had time to discuss during their busy filming schedule. It felt like a return to simplicity, a reminder of why they loved being with each other.
