Chapter Eighteen: A Day on Set
The morning sun peeked through the blinds of the trailer, casting soft rays across Jenna and Y/N as they stirred awake. They had both slept soundly after the chaotic excitement of the night before, grateful for a new day on set with familiar faces.
As Y/N made his way to the small kitchenette to brew coffee, Jenna stretched, rubbing her eyes with a sleepy smile. "What time is it?" she asked, her voice groggy but content.
"Early enough that we can grab breakfast with the cast," Y/N replied, handing her a freshly brewed cup. "Thought we could make it a little tradition."
Jenna took the coffee gratefully, savoring its warmth. "Sounds perfect. Let me get ready."
After some quick preparation, the two stepped out of their trailer and began the walk across the set to meet their castmates for breakfast. The set was already buzzing with energy, with crew members setting up cameras, testing lighting, and moving props into place. Familiar voices and laughter drifted from a nearby catering tent, where the rest of the cast was already gathered around tables, chatting and eating.
As Jenna and Y/N entered, they were greeted with cheers and smiles. Melissa, who was sipping her coffee with a grin, waved them over. "Look who decided to grace us with their presence!"
Jenna rolled her eyes playfully. "Oh, please! We're only, what, five minutes late?"
Mason, who had already demolished half his breakfast, chuckled. "We thought you two would be fashionably late, you know, newly-minted Hollywood couple and all."
Y/N laughed, sliding into a seat beside Mason, while Jenna sat across from him next to Melissa. "We're still the same, just more, uh... public, I guess."
"Good to know fame hasn't changed you," Mason quipped, winking. "But really, it's good to have everyone back. Scream wouldn't be the same without the whole gang."
The cast nodded in agreement, and they all began catching up. As they ate, they exchanged stories from the past few months, filling each other in on travels, projects, and adventures since they last saw one another.
Jenna's laughter rang out as she listened to Mason describe his recent attempt at surfing in Hawaii. "Did you actually stay on the board, or was it all just a struggle to stand up?"
Mason threw his hands up defensively, laughing. "Hey, I stayed up for a solid three seconds! That counts, right?"
"Totally counts," Y/N chimed in, smirking. "We should all go on a group surfing trip sometime—see who's the best surfer among us."
"Oh, it's on!" Melissa said, grinning. "You're looking at a former beach bum, so I'd watch out."
As breakfast wound down, the cast gradually made their way to the set to start filming. The energy shifted as they slipped into character, preparing to tackle the intense scenes that awaited them. Today, they'd be filming a few pivotal sequences, including a high-stakes confrontation scene where Jenna's character, Tara, has a heated exchange with Josh, played by Y/N. The scenes were emotionally charged, requiring intense focus and commitment from both of them.
Jenna glanced over at Y/N as they waited for their cue to start. She could see him focusing, mentally preparing himself for the scene ahead. "Ready?" she asked softly.
Y/N nodded, giving her a small smile. "Ready if you are."
As the director called "Action!" Jenna and Y/N dove into their roles, fully embodying their characters. Tara's guarded demeanor clashed with Josh's persistent determination as the two faced off in a tense exchange. Jenna could feel her heartbeat quicken as she delivered her lines, her voice carrying a hint of anger and vulnerability.
"You think you can just waltz back into my life and fix everything?" Tara's voice trembled, her eyes narrowing as she glared at Josh.
Josh, played by Y/N, met her gaze with equal intensity, his tone resolute. "I'm not trying to fix anything, Tara. I just want to be here for you. Is that so hard to believe?"
The words hung in the air, the emotional weight of the scene palpable. Jenna felt her own emotions rising, and for a moment, it was hard to distinguish where her feelings ended and Tara's began. They held each other's gaze, caught up in the intensity of the moment, until the director finally called, "Cut!"
The cast and crew erupted into applause, impressed by the raw energy Jenna and Y/N had brought to the scene. The director approached them, a satisfied smile on his face. "That was fantastic, you two. You nailed it. Exactly what I was hoping for."
Jenna exhaled, feeling a mix of relief and pride. She glanced at Y/N, who gave her a small, proud nod. "Not bad, Ortega. Not bad at all."
They moved on to other scenes, tackling each one with the same dedication and focus. By lunchtime, the cast was buzzing with energy, eager to regroup and take a well-deserved break. As they gathered in the catering tent once again, Jenna plopped down beside Y/N, letting out a tired sigh.
"That was... intense," she murmured, leaning her head on his shoulder.
Y/N chuckled, wrapping an arm around her. "You did amazing, though. I could feel every emotion you put into that scene."
Mason joined them, shaking his head in admiration. "Seriously, you two were electric. Might even steal the show."
"Aw, thanks, guys," Jenna replied, a blush creeping into her cheeks. "It's nice to be back in a project that really makes you dig deep."
Throughout the rest of the lunch break, they continued chatting with their castmates, sharing inside jokes and making plans for after filming wrapped. The camaraderie between them was infectious, and Jenna and Y/N found themselves smiling and laughing, grateful to be surrounded by such a close-knit group.
When the day finally wrapped, Jenna and Y/N lingered for a moment on set, watching as the crew packed up for the evening. The city lights began to flicker on in the distance, casting a warm glow across the skyline.
"Another day down," Y/N murmured, his arm draped around Jenna's shoulders.
She smiled, leaning into him. "And another day closer to bringing this film to life. I'm glad we're doing this together."
"Me too," he said softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "Wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
Hand in hand, they made their way back to their trailer, feeling content after a long, fulfilling day on set.
