"Out!" I ordered my maid, Sabrina. She winced, carefully dropped the brush she had been using on my hair, and left my room to avoid my wrath.
She had started blabbing about my brother's wedding and it had annoyed me. My brother, Ayden, was getting married to a grade A vampire whore and everyone knew it, except him and my parents. Funny how people only chose to believe what they wanted.
I quickly directed my thoughts somewhere positive. I was to meet up with my best friend in thirty minutes for a picnic. I smiled to myself. Carter and I had been friends for a long time, and trust me that's long. I changed from my boring blue, full length gown to black skinnies and an off-shoulder red midriff that showed off my piercing. I just wasn't your typical princess. I snuck down to my black Lamborghini and sped off. Being a princess had its perks.
I parked and got out; I was so excited to see him. It was a beautiful night, the stars twinkling in the sky, the moon radiating a beautiful color that reflected on the nearby pond.
"I'm here." I whispered into the night.
"Good, I've been waiting." A voice replied.
Carter's.
Warmth, if it could, would have crawled into my cold skin as he came into focus. Ashen hair, twinkling green eyes, straight nose and pale skin, he looked exactly the same. Young, carefree and flawless. I ran to him and hugged him. He hugged me back and we stayed that way for a while until he let me go.
"Easy there, tiger. People might think we're together." he teased flashing me a bright smile.
"As if I care what people think." I replied equally smiling.
Carter had stayed by me through thick and thin, I knew I could always count on him and he knew it was the same with me. I stayed by him when he mourned the death of his parents- mourning was a long and extremely painful process for vampires, but I stayed by him, happy to be able to help through the excruciating process.
"You look really good." he complimented.
"Right back at you." I replied batting my eyelashes furiously which made him laugh. He sat on the grass and pulled me down making me have a giggling fit.
"So how have you been?" he asked when I finally stopped giggling.
"How do I look like I've been?" I replied, arching a brow.
"Like you've been way too pampered" he said making me laugh. I smacked his arm and stuck my tongue out at him.
"That's not very princess like." he teased
"Like I care," I replied, laughing. "Let's eat. I'm starving."
"Whatever you want princess." he teased yet again.
I ignored him this time as he opened up the picnic basket I surprisingly hadn't noticed.
"Hotdogs?" I asked, smiling.
"Your favorite, right?" he replied as he brought the hotdogs out accompanied by blood bags. My stomach literally growled which made him laugh and made me frown jokingly at him.
"Just dig in." he said, grinning and I stuck my tongue out.
Vampires generally have difficulty digesting food but with consistent practice, we could make it stay down, instead of throwing it all up- it helped with fitting in to the human world. It was part of my training as a princess. Most things still tasted like cardboard to me though, except hotdogs for some unknown reason. We talked and talked as we ate. Bad manners I know. But I'm a freaking vampire. I can't exactly choke on my food and die. I finally decided to take a swing of the blood and smacked my lips.
"Blonde. O positive" I said. How do I know the hair color? It's basic genetics. It's all in the blood. Vampires, as they mature, should be able to differentiate blood types. Something felt odd about the blood though. Very odd.
"You do know your snacks." Carter commented gently.
I smiled lazily at him about to make a smartass comment when I felt my head begin to spin.
"What's happening?" I asked, my words slurring.
"Nothing. Nothing." He replied his eyes observing mine, wickedly.
"Carter?" I was getting worried. My insides were burning and my vision was blurry.
"It's just a little dose of were-blood. Don't worry." He replied with an evil smile.
"W-why?" I got up, staggering. I was having even more trouble with my words.
"Oh, you'll see." He replied.
I looked around and saw that we were surrounded by lycanthropes. With one last look of shock at Carter, I gathered all my strength and zoomed into the woods. It was really difficult to navigate myself. I could barely see. My head was spinning. I ducked and jumped. I looked behind me and saw three lycans fast approaching.
I can lose them, I thought.
I...
Can...
Los...
I tripped and blacked out.
