“Mamma! Mamma!” little Felix screamed from inside his room, tears streaming down his face.

A loud scream had awoken him and he had been unable to go back to sleep as the screams refused to die down. They freaked him out as he did not understand what was going on but felt in his innocent, little heart it just had to be something terrible.

His mother dashed into his room quicker than he had ever seen and lifted him, trying to coo him and calm him down and it almost worked until someone Felix didn’t recognize stepped into the room, making Felix resume bawling his eyes out.

This intruder scared him, he was standing right in the door frame and he looked huge, not exactly big but just tall and slightly lanky. His hands were covered in red fluid, he had two pointed teeth in the midst of other normal looking ones and he hissed, making him look scarier than he already did. Felix let out a loud cry and his mother yelled something at this intruder before dropping Felix back in his bed and turning to face the other man.

Felix watched as his mother screamed something at this man before something strange happened, his mother seemed to transform into something else but, something went horribly wrong. The intruder was faster than anything Felix had ever seen, he grabbed Felix’s mother by her furry neck and snapped it half.

Felix screamed as his mother went limp on the ground. Although he did not fully understand what had just happened, one-year-old Felix had just watched his mother die. The intruder pulled out a gun and shot poor Felix’s mother in the head, twice, as though that was necessary.

The intruder then proceeded towards Felix, staring at the little lycanthrope child with black, beady eyes. He might have been a “bloodsucker” but he was no monster, he was simply acting on orders and he had strict orders to kill every lycanthrope he saw, this little boy included.

The little boy was crying his eyes out, his eyes laced with fear and the intruder decided there and then, nothing could justify killing this innocent soul. He turned his back to the boy and ran out of the house, leaving little Felix all alone, crying his eyes out with no one to calm him.

Loud screams could be heard from every direction. The temperature of the environment was scorching hot probably due to the fires. Some of the houses were set on fire, the trees were set on fire, there was nowhere to run to, there was nowhere to hide and as there was no moon out, the fires illuminated the area, giving an oddly eerie look to it.

Bodies lain on the ground, children had been orphaned, wives had become widows, husbands, widowers, parents had watched their children die right before them.

Kallidot was a small village and they were barely prepared for an attack. They had been unable to call for backup fast enough as they really hadn’t seen this coming.

Lycanthropes were undoubtedly strong but the attack came right after the full moon had passed, when they were at their weakest. The men fought back if they could, they tried their hardest as the women and children tried to flee to safety but, of course, nowhere was safe.

The vampires had come fully prepared for a bloodbath and they wouldn’t leave until they got exactly that. There were multiple deaths by the minute and the lycanthropes knew this was a battle they wouldn’t win but, they refused to stop. Giving up was not their nature. Just a little over an hour, every lycanthrope in Kallidot village was dead, all except one and Darius Keiffle knew he would never really forget about the lycanthrope life he spared. Odds were, the little boy wouldn’t last two weeks if some other vampire hadn’t even killed him already.

More importantly though, the war between vampires and werewolves, had officially begun.

I woke up, shockingly, without the usual throb in my head after I pass out. I felt rather weak and I saw I was now in my nightwear. Everything looked blurry to me and I momentarily wondered if this was how it was for people who used glasses before my eyes adjusted to the lighting and my room came into focus.

“What did you do to her, father?! She’s been out cold for two nights!” I heard Asher yell and it took me a while to realize he was right behind my door.

Wait, two nights?

“What do you mean by that? That’s not possible. She’s a vampire. She’s practically dead. Undead. Whatever they call themselves these days.” He continued. I soon realized King Tarius wasn’t actually here as I couldn't hear a reply.

“Please tell me you’re joking, father. You just have to be.”

“That was your plan all along, wasn’t it?! Why did you decide to just keep me in the dark? I’m not ready for this. I’m not ready for any of this!” he yelled into his phone.  He seemed really upset about something and I knew it involved me so I was definitely getting details.

He was quiet for quite some time before he spoke again, his voice calm. “I understand. I’m sorry. It’s my responsibility as your heir to do what’s best for our people. Just tell me what to do.” he said, letting out a deep sigh.

“Where is it?”

“Okay. Bye father.” He concluded.

I heard his footsteps retreat away from my room and I let my mind wander. I was rather curious about what King Tarius had told Asher and I wondered if he would tell me.

Minutes later, Asher returned and I wondered if I should fake being asleep but decided not to.

“You’re up.” Asher said, with a straight face.

“Obviously.” I replied, my voice weak.

He was holding a tray which held a bottle of water, a glass cup, and a pack of white pills that looked normal. He dropped the tray on the bedside table beside me and I sat up to look up at him questioning.

“They’re for you.” He said and crossed his arms over his chest.

“No, they aren’t.” I replied, stubbornly.

“Why do you always have to be so darn stubborn?”  He asked rhetorically, shaking his head but I saw admiration rest briefly in his eyes.

Why do you always have to be so darn hot? I wondered as I took him in. he was wearing a white, rather tight T-shirt and blue shorts.

Damn, where did that come from?

“Viola?” he called out, looking a little concerned. Just a little. He was probably thinking I had finally lost it. I mean, who wouldn’t?

“I’m not taking those. I have never taken pills and I do not trust you.”

His eyes darkened at my words, why would they hurt him? I had said worse to him.

“If I was allowed to kill you, you’d be dead already. Take a pill, you’ll feel better.”

I figured he was right and poured myself some water to down the pill with. The pill kicked into action almost immediately and I knew they weren’t regular pills. The weakness I felt began to fade away.

“You’ll have to take them daily now.” He said.

“What? Why? No. Absolutely not.”

“You don’t have a choice.” He replied.
“Screw that,” I shot. “Does this have to do with what you were talking to your dad about earlier?”

“How do you know about that?” he asked before shaking his head and dropping his hands to his sides.

“Never mind. Yes, it does.” He replied.
“I know I play a rather large role in all of this and I want to know what’s going on. What is happening to me Asher?” I asked and felt my voice crack a little towards the end.

I immediately regretted letting that moment of weakness show when I saw Asher’s eyes soften towards me. I didn’t want pity, especially not from him.

“I guess you deserve to know now since you’ll find out sooner or later.” He said and sighed before staring intensely at me with those piercing green eyes.

I thought I had braced myself for the worst but I did not expect his next words and I felt myself break at the utterance.

“Viola, you are pregnant.”
