Saturday | 09:45.
I let go of the air trapped in my lungs when I enter school. The players and cheerleaders are gathered in front of the bus waiting to go to the field where the schools will compete.
I see Ruby excited next to the girls, and as soon as she sees me, she jumps the small steps of the stairs and runs towards me.
- You've finally arrived! - she exclaimed excitedly, holding my hands.
- I'm so nervous - I confess, in a whisper.
- everything will come out perfectly, Mali - she smiles in a comforting way, pulling me to join them.
It's a matter of minutes for the director to show up with the driver. The boys shouted excitedly, as always, hitting each other's hands for no reason.
I bite my lower lip apprehensively, holding the backpack on one side of my shoulder, hitting my foot several times on the floor. Since the time I got up I've been restless, anxious for this day that so many things will happen.
My mind wanders slowly until it stops at Kylie. I remember the museum night, it was so amazing and magical, and a great surprise. After that night, Kylie only allowed me to leave her house this morning. I remember that she threatened Joshua to deceive my father, and apparently it worked.
But something bothers me. In the morning, Kylie was in a hurry, she almost didn't have time to talk to me.
But before leaving home to solve something, she had commented that she would try to be present in the game, but I didn't believe her words.
- how are you? She seems bothered by something - Ruby held my shoulder, looking at me cautiously.
I smiled minimally, raising my posture. - yes I am, just too anxious - which is not a lie.
- Let's start - the director speaks in a loud tone, in front of the bus door. - the girls will stay upstairs and the boys downstairs - he commented and everyone got ready to get in.
I still don't know what the need is to be a double-decker bus, and there aren't many people.
- Is everyone in the game uniforms? - he asked, receiving murmurs. - come in! And no fuss! - he added, giving space.
I was the first to climb, I didn't waste time walking down the corridor between the benches and going to sit on the last, Ruby came right behind and sat next to me, rubbing her hands anxiously.
I look around, noticing that the floor is dark because of the blackout curtains that hide the windows. A good place to sleep.
I lean on the seat, crossing my legs, putting the backpack in the corner of the floor. I turn my face to Ruby, who types on her cell phone non-stop, at a glance I can see that it's Morgan. I smile in disguise, laying my head on her shoulder, snuggling up to take a little nap.
- wake me up when we arrive - I speak in a low tone, closing my eyes, listening to her nasal laugh.
It took a few minutes to fall asleep deeply. But you know when you have the feeling that you are not sleeping, and that you can hear everything around you in the middle of the darkness? That's what I'm feeling.
I don't see anything, just the dense darkness around me. I hear whispers, which get stronger when I try to look for the place where it's coming from, but something changes, and suddenly, I'm inside a house.
I look around, trying to know where I am, but the place is quiet. I get scared when I hear the door behind me open, showing a red-haired girl, who runs up the glass stairs. Strange, she didn't see me.
