In the darkness, I hear Kylie's voice moving away, and her low voice saying that she needed to go. Despair takes over me and I try my best to open my eyes and scream her name, to beg her to stay by my side.

Everything becomes denser around me, and with every effort I make to try to wake up, the screams around me become muffled, as if they were moving away. A heavy sigh escapes my lips as I feel my body float in the darkness, leaving me completely unaware of what is happening.

With my eyes closed, I feel the light breeze blow against my face, and I hear laughter a little away.
Maybe I did it.

When I open my eyes, calmly, I realize that I am in a calm and full of life place. The lake in front of me stands out among the trees with intense green leaves and my attention is caught by the laughter that echoes between the trees.

I look at the trees, seeing a little girl running between them, so smiling and happy. I frown, noticing that I'm sitting on green grass, surrounded by small toys.

— it's good to run for today — I look up, seeing Kylie appear between the trees, carrying the girl upside down.

Kylie?

What is she doing with this child? Even more here?

- what it was? — Her gaze falls on me, as she turns the girl around and puts her on the floor.

- what is happening? — my question is involuntary, and her tiny smile grows as he approaches.

My mind is a mess, I have so many questions to ask, but nothing comes out of my mouth. The little girl with dark, wavy hair has a beautiful smile on her lips.

So similar to hers...

— this is something that could still happen - her words sound calmly, as she sits next to me and the girl sits on her lap.

— what do you mean?... — I ask, almost inaudible, without taking my eyes off the girl.

Kylie lets out a nasal laugh, fixing the little girl's hair. — it's time to go back, Malia — I feel my heart skip a beat when she says that.

And like a breath, everything goes dark and my body feels heavy. I feel my chest rise and fall rapidly and I open my eyes with difficulty, finding the white light on the ceiling.

— she woke up, doctor! — I hear the female voice next to me, so I calmly turn my face away, feeling a little pain. — you gave us quite a scare — she laughs softly, changing the IV bag.

I remain silent, swallowing hard, turning my face away, looking for someone, but there is no one but the man dressed in white.

I need someone to go after Kylie... I need her here with me.

— are you thirsty? — the doctor asks, taking a plastic cup and filling it with water from the jug.

I look at him without reaction for a few seconds, but quickly, I shake my head lightly, feeling everything hurt. The man approaches with the glass and the woman helps me lift my head so I can drink the water.
A sigh of relief escapes my lips as I feel a little better.

— I'm going to let someone come talk to you, okay? — I nod, and he smiles. — I'll come see you soon, to check if you're okay — he says, before going to the door.

He leaves the room with the woman, and after minutes of silence the door is opened, revealing Joshua; Ruby and Morgan. I feel a tightness in my chest not seeing her here too, but I remember hearing very quietly that she needed to go urgently.

— hi... — Ruby approaches, in slow steps, with her small, gentle smile. — you almost killed us now — she sits in the armchair next to me, placing her hand on mine.

— what happened?... — I ask almost in a whisper, alternating my gaze between the three.

— you had a cardiac arrest... — Joshua
He starts talking, approaching the foot of the stretcher. - your heart stopped beating for three whole minutes... — his words echo in my head.

My mouth is hanging open as I try to process what happened. My mind goes back to the moment I lived.
Was it just a weird dream?

— I need her to come back... — I say, taking a deep breath, feeling everything come back to the surface.

— she'll be back soon, Mali — Joshua says, placing his hand on my covered leg. — in these two months we will be with you, and we will follow our plan — he smiles and I swallow dry.

Okay... It's two months. Two months to try to start a life without problems again.

- let's go outside - Morgan pulls Joshua towards the exit of the room, leaving me feeling distressed.

I sigh and look at Ruby, who is too quiet. The sound of her cell phone ringing echoes in the room and she gets up, going to grab it from the dresser in the room. She bites her bottom lip as she stares at the screen, then her gaze lands on me.

— it's her — I try to sit up, but the pain is so unbearable that I stay lying down, slightly raising my arm to take the cell phone from her hand.

— without making an effort! — She hands me her cell phone, looking at me seriously.

— sorry.. — I murmur, looking at the screen, sighing heavily.

— I'll wait outside, okay? — I shake my head in agreement.

I answer the call when she leaves the room. My breathing is heavy, as is Kylie's on the other side. I don't say anything, I just wait for something from you.

— Ruby? — Her voice is low and choked, as if she had been crying for a long time. — I forgot to ask you to let her know that I love her — I can't control the tears and sobs.

I heard her voice every day, all her I love her, but it was so distant and faint, and now hearing it like this, it's like my world is falling apart as I remember she's far away again.

— I love you more, Cantrall — my voice sounds low and choked, as I close my eyes, sinking my head into the pillow.

— Malia? — the surprise is evident in her voice, making me smile as I imagine what she looks like now. - how? — her question comes out more to herself .

— you promised me you would always be by my side

— I sigh, hearing her breathing on the other side.

— my love, I will always be... But now, I need to hunt down the son of a bitch who led to this consequence - her voice is full of resentment. — I promise to come back soon, princess... In the meantime, get your new life together and call me whenever you want — a sob rips from my throat when I hang up the call.

I put the cell phone aside, placing my hands over my face, letting the tears fall without fear. All of this is suffocating, my mind is a mess.

I don't want to start my life over without her by my side, but it seems like everything is too complicated when it involves us.

Now, get out of this damn hospital and I will move away from this place that will haunt me for the rest of my life. I will leave behind all the bad moments and unpleasant memories.

The crying stops and I take my hands off my face, staring at the white wall, remembering the day of the accident, the shot and the screams.

But I feel like something that happened that night has slipped my mind and that leaves me in agony.
