April’s POV

“Okay, time for me to go now”.

“I’m going to miss you April, my baby all grown up”.

“Mum… please… let… go… cant… breathe”.

“Oops, sorry. I’m just really going to miss you”.

“Yeah I know. I’ll miss you too. You can always call, text me, even email me. You know how I’m always on skype as well, as long as you remember how to use it”.

“I do remember thank you very much, I’m not that old”.

“Mum I was joking. Besides, even if you text me that’s okay because I’ll need something to keep me awake during any boring lessons”.

“You will not text me during your lessons. You are there to learn”.

“I’ll do my best, but maybe the odd time. I should really get going now; otherwise all you have done for me to get into the college, and all the major arrangements we have made, especially with Jazzie, will have gone to waste”.

“I love you sweetie, please let me know when you get there”.

“Sure, I’ll phone while I am unpacking. Love you too. Bye!”

Having already handed my suitcases and holdall to the driver to place in the undercarriage of the coach, I climb up the steps looking around to find a seat, I prefer sitting at the back, but the people at the back usually get rowdy and cause trouble. It was quite packed, but I find a seat in the middle by the window and look out of it seeing my mum with a few tears escaping from her eyes.

“Hey, do you mind if I sit here, there aren’t many seats left?”

“Oh, um, sure”.

“Thanks, I’m Kara”.

She holds out her hand for me to shake, as I do, I reply.

“April”.

I look out the window back at my mum. I feel slightly sad that I am leaving her, we have plenty of ways to contact each other, but I guess it’s not the same as if the person is actually there. We spent a lot of time together over the summer, and I know it will feel really empty without me there, but I have my brother checking up on her for me.

As the bus starts to move, my mum looks up from the doorway of her car spotting me straight away, and then waving like a maniac, which makes me laugh with the odd happy tear falling from my own eyes as I wave bye to her. I know I’ll see her soon, but it still hurts.

“What course you going to be studying? If you don’t mind my asking?”

“Animal care”.

“Oh, that’s awesome, so am I”.

The whole journey pretty much went with Kara and I asking each other questions to get to know each other. I still don’t even know why she’s even talking to me, but she is. I am not even going to question it, so I might as well try and make 1 friend, even if its going to last the 3hour coach journey.

Half way through the journey I start yawning, and apologise to Kara that I was tired due to my early wake up, and she was fine with me putting my music on and going to sleep, and that she would nudge me when we get there. Sadly, it wasn’t Kara nudging me to wake me; it was the brakes of the coach. I looked around outside noticing that we were just pulling in to the campus gates, so no point in going back to sleep. Kara was sitting wide awake next to me having a little stretch.

“I was going to give you a few more minutes to sleep, sorry”.

“It’s fine. I can wake myself up a little bit before getting off half asleep; I want to take the whole experience of being here in”.

Getting off the coach at the reception, we were told to collect our induction folders and room keys from the tables and then return to the coach. After queuing in the line for my course for around an hour, I got given a purple folder which held my dorm key, map of the campus, timetable, and all the other information I may need during my time at the college. I headed back to the coach, and after a few other people got on after me, including Kara, we headed to the back of the college to the accommodation.

We pulled up in front of a few very tall, nice looking buildings. I got off and went straight over to my suitcases and holdalls that the driver had removed from the undercarriage, and headed over towards the entrance of the lifts inside the building. While on that short ride from reception to here, I found my room information and I am on the top floor. I pushed the button for the lift just as Kara came over as well.

“Hey April, what’s your room?”

“10.27.B”.

“Oh wow! That’s the top floor, lucky girl; you should have an amazing view. I am on the third floor, but I’m sure we’ll see each other still, especially since we are on the same course. Would you like to meet up and go for a walk, figure out where everything is?”

“I am actually tired, so will probably go to sleep once I have unpacked”.

“Ok, maybe another time then. Looks like I have gotten to my floor, hope to see you soon”.

Once she left, the lift kept on going up, without stopping. Come to think of it, I am really grateful for the person who invented lifts, and the person who put the lift in this building. The doors opened to the sound of giggling girls chatting about random things and then giving me dirty looks as I pulled my suitcases and holdalls along past them in the hallway looking for my dorm number.

5… 11… 18…23… almost there…. 26… 27.

“Ah ha”.

Did I just say that out loud? Oops. Oh well, I have always said that I should be more vocal around others, whether they hear me or not is another thing entirely. I stood there for a minute getting my breathing under control because my luggage is not exactly the lightest things to wheel/ carry.

I went to put the key in the lock but as I leant towards the door, I could hear some raised voices that sounded like at least 1 boy arguing, not even arguing, it’s screaming, about… Nando’s? Carrots? I don’t think I should go in there right now, it isn’t the right time, and it will be so awkward. April, grow some and go in. If anything, they will stop, or you can help. Breathe.

I place the key in the lock hoping they would hear and stop, but they didn’t, so I proceeded to open the door dragging both of my suitcases backwards into what I think is the living room. They are still arguing, but as I nudge the door to close while I pull my luggage a little further into the room, they quiet down. I turn round to find boys sprawled across a sofa in weird positions, as if it was one giant pill-on.

Thinking about what they were arguing over, if I wasn’t so nervous; I think I would be laughing at the fact that Niall and Louis probably argue about those foods a lot when they hang out. Who knew that other people do too?

As I look closely, my eyes widen in realisation. There are 5boys, and not just any boys…

Liam, Louis, Zayn, Harry and Niall.

None other than the one… and the only…One Direction.
