Tim and Lucy sat on the living room floor, folding laundry together as the afternoon sun poured through the windows. The peaceful atmosphere was punctuated by the cheerful sounds of their children playing nearby. Eliana, now two and a half, was happily playing with her brothers while William and Oliver were building a block tower in the next room.

Suddenly, a high-pitched scream pierced the tranquility. Tim and Lucy exchanged worried glances just as William burst into the living room, panic written all over his face.

William- Help me!
He shouted, glancing back over his shoulder as Eliana came charging after him, her tiny fists clenched and her expression fierce. Tears streamed down her cheeks, but it was clear she wasn't just upset—she was furious.

Tim instinctively stood up, concern flooding his face as he reached out for Eliana.
Tim- Hey, hey! What's going on?
He asked, scooping her up before she could get to William, knowing all too well the feistiness that could emerge from his little girl.

Eliana- Don't touch me!
Eliana shouted, squirming in Tim's arms, clearly agitated.
Eliana- Put me down, Daddy!
Her tiny body wiggled, and her distress intensified, but Tim was determined to keep her safe from William's reach.

William took a few cautious steps back.
William- I didn't do anything!
He protested, wide-eyed and defensive.
William- She just got mad!

With Eliana wriggling in his arms, Tim held her firmly but gently.
Tim- Okay, okay, I won't put you down yet.
He said, trying to soothe her. He knew if he'd let her down, someone was going to get hurt and that someone was definitely not going to be her.
Tim- But tell me what happened.

Before Eliana could respond, Tim felt her entire body tense up as she turned her tear-streaked face toward Lucy, who was watching with concern.
Eliana- Mommy!
She cried, reaching for her mother.

Lucy stepped forward and gently took Eliana from Tim, cradling her close as they moved to the kitchen, just a few steps away in their open-concept home.
Lucy- Let's go talk, sweetheart. It's okay.
She whispered, rubbing Eliana's back as they made their way to a quieter space.

Tim watched them go, his heart heavy. He'd always encouraged his children to express themselves, and he felt guilty for not listening to Eliana when she clearly wanted to be set down. He knew he had to approach this with care, especially if she was feeling hurt.

After a few moments, Tim approached the kitchen doorway, giving them a little space.
Tim- I'm really sorry, Ellie.
He said softly.
Tim- I didn't mean to upset you. Can you tell us what happened?

Eliana, still clinging to Lucy, wiped her eyes with the back of her hand.
Eliana- William hurt my bunny!
She sobbed, her tiny voice cracking.
Eliana- He hurt him really bad!

Lucy- What?!
Lucy exclaimed, her eyes wide with concern.
Lucy- Where is your bunny, sweetie?

Eliana- He...He's...in my room—Bunny is... in my room.
Tim and Lucy exchanged worried glances as Eliana led them to her room, her tiny hand gripping Lucy's tightly. Tim followed closely behind, his heart racing with concern for his little girl and her beloved bunny.

As they entered Eliana's room, the sight that greeted them made Lucy's heart sink. There, on the floor, lay Bunny, Eliana's favorite stuffed animal, in a state of distress. The left arm and ear were detached, and the right leg had been ripped off halfway. Tim could see the way Eliana's face crumpled as she took in the sight of her cherished toy, and he knew they had to act quickly.

Eliana's lip quivered as fresh tears spilled down her cheeks.
Eliana- Bunny!
She cried, her voice filled with heartbreak.
Eliana- William hurt him!
