The air in Kattegat crackled with the smell of burning wood and the clash of steel. Screams and shouts echoed across the streets, the chaos of battle spreading like wildfire. Ivar gripped the hilt of his sword, his knuckles white with tension as his icy blue eyes scanned the burning town."Where are you?" he muttered under his breath, rage boiling inside him as he pulled himself along with his arms, his legs useless beneath him. His warriors were busy fighting off the invaders, but all he cared about was finding you. You, who had fought by his side countless times, strong and fierce as any warrior he had ever known.
But tonight, the thought of you being out there—lost in the fray—gnawed at him. Every second without you made the fear tighten in his chest, though he would never admit it. Not even to himself.
His heart pounded as he maneuvered through the chaos. His men tried to assist him, but he waved them off with a snarl. He would find you. The weight of his legs dragging behind him didn't slow his determination, though each movement was like fire coursing through his body.
Then he saw it—the group of raiders, closing in on someone trapped between a building and a crumbling wall.
His breath caught in his throat. You.
Without thinking, he let out a furious roar, willing his body to move faster as he pulled himself forward. But then, just as one of the raiders lunged at you, the scene changed. Instead of being the one needing rescue, you turned on him, quicker than a viper.
With an almost primal scream, you launched yourself at the man, sinking your teeth into his throat. The brutal sound of flesh tearing echoed through the alleyway as his blood sprayed across your face. You didn't stop until he collapsed beneath you, his lifeless body slumping to the ground.
Ivar froze.
For a moment, the chaos of battle faded away. All he could see was you—standing there, panting heavily, blood dripping from your chin, your eyes wild with the fury of battle. You looked more like a creature of legend than a mortal woman, and for the first time in his life, Ivar was completely, utterly still.
His heart thundered in his chest, but it wasn't just the fear or the relief. It was something else.
Admiration. Awe. Lust.
The sight of you, fierce and untamed, set something ablaze within him. You were his. And seeing you like this only made that fact more real, more intense. He had always known you were strong, but this... this was something else. You were a force of nature.
You wiped the blood from your mouth with the back of your hand and turned to face him, your gaze meeting his. The intensity of his stare made you pause, your chest still heaving from the fight. His lips curled into a grin, something dark and hungry lurking behind his blue eyes.
"You're a wild thing," he rasped, his voice hoarse from the exertion. "A savage."
He pulled himself closer, dragging his body through the dirt, his eyes never leaving yours. "And I've never wanted you more."
You smirked, wiping the blood from your chin. "I had it handled."
His laugh was low, a rumble from deep in his chest. "I never doubted it. But I can't decide what I want more right now... to keep fighting, or take you."
His gaze lingered on you, a mixture of admiration and raw desire. Despite the chaos around you, the world seemed to shrink, leaving just the two of you in that moment.
Battle could wait. For now, all he wanted was you.
