The air was thick with dust and the scent of blood as you twisted and parried with a vampire, ducking under their claws and striking with brutal efficiency. Your senses were on high alert, every fiber of your being honed to take down Camille's minions. This was her lair, the infamous Hotel Dumort, and you knew she was close.

Amidst the chaos, you heard Alec shout your name. You spun around just in time to see him nock an arrow and let it fly—straight at Camille. But in a blink, the vampire queen was gone from sight. The next second, cold hands gripped your shoulders, and with vampire speed, Camille yanked you into her grasp, using you as a human shield. You felt Alec's arrow pierce your chest, the sharp, unforgiving pain radiating as you gasped.

For a split second, everything slowed. Your eyes locked with Alec's, horror and anguish in his expression as he dropped his bow, his hands trembling. You could feel his shock, his guilt, bleeding across the space between you. You wanted to reassure him, but Camille's voice interrupted, low and venomous, laughing wickedly in your ear.

"Oh, darling, looks like your boyfriend's marksmanship could use some work," she taunted. "Too bad it cost you—"

With a fierce, determined breath, you gripped the shaft of the arrow, and before Camille could react, you pushed it further through your chest, forcing it backward. Camille's gloating turned to a gasp as the arrow found its new mark—her heart. She was pinned to you, staked. Her mouth fell open in a soundless scream, eyes going wide in shock as her body disintegrated to ash.

As her minions saw her fall, they scattered, leaving you standing victorious, if only barely, surrounded by the remnants of dust.

Your legs threatened to buckle, and as Alec ran to you, you felt them give out. But he was there, catching you, his strong arms steady as he gently eased you to the ground.

"Don't... move," he choked out, terror lacing his voice. His fingers hovered near the arrow still lodged in your chest, not daring to touch it. His gaze flicked back to your face, filled with a kind of raw agony that made your heart clench.

"Alec," you whispered, voice rough but strong, your eyes steady on his. "Pull it out."

He shook his head, unable to force his hands to comply. "I—I can't. I just..." His voice was barely a whisper, so torn it was almost lost in the chaos around you.

You took a deep breath, gritting your teeth as you gripped the arrow. "I'll do it," you said, and without a second thought, you yanked the arrow from your chest. The pain was blinding, but you didn't flinch. Instead, you held the bloody arrow out to him, smirking through the pain.

Alec blinked, in awe, his hand closing over yours. His face was a mixture of shock, amazement, and something deeper, something fierce and tender all at once. He took the stele, hands still trembling, and began tracing the healing rune over your skin, his eyes never leaving yours. Every stroke, every line, felt like a promise. A silent vow that this moment would never leave him.

As the rune's power took effect, you could feel the pain begin to fade, the wound knitting together beneath his hand. Alec's gaze softened, a hint of a smile breaking through his worry.

"You're unbelievable," he murmured, voice laced with admiration and affection.

You gave a shaky grin, shrugging slightly. "Guess you're stuck with me, Lightwood."

He leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead, his relief palpable. And in that moment, even in the midst of ruin and remnants of ash, you knew—together, you could face anything.
