The wind howled around you, the sound of chaos and destruction echoing off the buildings as you, Thomas, and Teresa sprinted toward the edge of the rooftop. The world was crumbling beneath your feet, debris raining down as the building shuddered violently. All around you, the sounds of WCKD's forces closing in grew louder, but the only thing on your mind was getting to the jet waiting just beyond the gap.

Thomas was in front of you, his face set with determination despite the blood trickling from a cut on his temple. Teresa was just behind him, her eyes locked on the jet, calculating the distance. You were the last, your heart pounding in your chest, fear clawing at the edges of your mind, but the only thing keeping you moving was the thought of surviving. Together.

"Jump!" Teresa shouted over the deafening sound of collapsing structures, her hand gripping Thomas's arm.

With one final burst of speed, Thomas leaped across the gap, landing hard on the edge of the jet. He scrambled for purchase, his hands slipping on the metal, but Teresa was there, grabbing him and pulling him up onto the platform.

You reached the edge just as Teresa steadied him, her eyes wide with urgency as the building beneath your feet groaned ominously. She turned back to help you, but first, she glanced at Thomas. "Go! Get inside!"

But Thomas didn't move. His gaze darted back and forth between you and Teresa, panic rising as the reality of the situation began to set in. The jet hovered precariously, and the rooftop you stood on was crumbling faster than you could process.

"Come on!" Teresa shouted, shoving Thomas toward safety, then reaching for you.

You locked eyes with Thomas, your heart clenching at the sight of the fear in his expression. You knew what he was thinking—this wasn't supposed to be happening. You were supposed to make it. All of you.

Teresa leaned over the edge, her arm outstretched. "Grab my hand!"

You leaped, your fingers just grazing Teresa's before she managed to catch you, pulling you toward the jet. Relief surged through you as your feet found solid ground on the platform, but the sound of cracking concrete made your blood run cold.

Behind you, the building buckled.

"Come on!" Thomas screamed, his voice hoarse as he reached for you.

Teresa steadied you just enough so you could reach for him, your body trembling from the adrenaline. The jet was almost there. You were so close.

But as you turned to make the final jump, the rooftop beneath you gave way with a sickening lurch.

"No!" Thomas yelled, his hand grasping at the empty air as the ground disappeared beneath your feet.

Time slowed as you fell, the weightlessness of the drop hitting you with gut-wrenching force. You could hear Thomas shouting, his voice filled with raw desperation, but you couldn't respond. All you could feel was the sensation of falling, the world blurring as everything you'd fought for, every hope of being with him, slipped away.

Your heart ached—not from fear, but from the thought of leaving him behind. You'd fought so hard to survive, for each other, and now it was ending.

"No, no, no!" Thomas's voice cracked as he watched you disappear, helpless to stop what was happening.

Teresa, her eyes wide with horror, looked between Thomas and the edge where you'd fallen. She wanted to do something, but there was nothing anyone could do.

Inside the jet, Thomas collapsed to his knees, his breath ragged, his fists slamming into the metal floor as sobs wracked his body. He barely registered the chaos around him—the jet lifting off, the world collapsing beneath it. All he could see was the image of you falling, the love of his life slipping from his grasp, gone.

His hands shook as he buried his face in them, unable to breathe, unable to think.

Teresa stood beside him, her face pale and haunted, knowing there were no words that could fix what had just happened. She had tried to save you, but it hadn't been enough. None of it had been enough.

The jet rose higher, carrying them away from the crumbling city. But for Thomas, it felt like everything had fallen apart. He didn't even notice when they were safe. How could they be safe without you?

He had lost you.

And it broke him.
