"Shit! We totally lost him,"
Lucy groaned exhausted, panting from running around. She and Happy had wandered around the train station, searching for the Eisenwald member who had sneaked away using magic in the midst of Erza's fierce battle.
"We can't go back to Erza now! She told us to go after him, she'll pulverize us!" Happy screeched. Lucy began to sweat profusely. She didn't want to get on anyone's bad side right now, especially Erza's, not after all the horror stories she heard.
A loud crash sounded from above them, the building shaking as the noise became louder. Soon enough, Lucy could faintly make out the voices of Erza and Natsu yelling.
"Let's go!" Lucy urged, making a beeline for the staircase ahead of them. She prayed that everything was okay, but the sight that met her at the top of the stairs betrayed her wishes. The wave had been caved in — broken — the Eisenwald member from the train laying in a heap, wounded, with Erza, Gray, and Natsu surrounding him. Natsu and Gray looked battered, while Erza remained as poise as ever.
"His real goal is the guild master meeting taking place in Clover," Gray explained once they were outside, met and blocked by a wind barrier supposedly created by Erigor.
"Kageyama is a dispeler, he has the power to dispel the wind barrier but — " Erza trailed off, taking in the state of him before getting down on her knees and shaking his limp body futilely. "Please, Kage, help us!" She urged. Gray only stared at her disapprovingly, shoulders tense.
Lucy bit her lip, torn, what could they do?
Suddenly, the sound of something ripping filled her ears, and she watched in shock as Natsu attempted to charge through the barrier.
"Stop it!" She cried, reaching forward before thinking better of it, "You'll get torn to shreds! Please!" He never once turned back, and the seconds he fought against the barrier, the more scared Lucy became.
"I said stop, Natsu!" Lucy rushed, wrapping her arms around Natsu's midsection, using all her strength to pull him away from the unforgiving wind. "Please, just stop." Lucy cried, a tear slipping out as she buried her face in his back. Lucy found it hard enough not to collapse in a heap at how helpless she felt. She peeked up at him when he turned back to look at her, and she expected a glare, but instead she saw how resigned he looked and how they both — all — probably felt. He sagged a little in her hold as they leaned against each other for support.
"Shit! What are we going to do?!" Erza cursed a few feet away.
"Lucy! Can your magic dispel this?" Gray asked tiredly, staring at the unwavering barrier.
"Ah! That reminds me!" Happy fished around in his backpack before he brandished a key. A gold key.
"W-where the heck did you get that?" Lucy murmured, her arms dropping from around Natsu, walking closer to accept the key from Happy.
"After we defeated Everlue, that monster thing turned out to be one of the spirits you were talking about!" Happy exclaimed, "She asked me to give you her key. Can't she dig holes? Maybe she can get us out of here!"
Ah. This was positively bad. Lucy didn't even know if she could summon a spirit. She hadn't summoned one since she was young. Was her magic supply still blocked? Then, she looked around her and saw all the expectant faces looking at her. Her resolve strengthened, she couldn't let them down. Lives were at stake.
"This key is for Virgo, the maiden," Lucy muttered, examining it slightly. She backed away from the group before she took a deep breath.
"Open! Gate of the Maiden, Virgo!"
