When she had opened the book, she couldn't help but stare in awe as the ancient text shot out from the pages, swirling around them, bright bold letters deciphering Natsu's life and his creation.

"Wow," Gray said, shocked as he too stared at the lively letters floating and soaring through the air. Happy sat next to him, just as befuddled, stretching his paws in the grass.

"We need to write in this book somehow," Lucy mumbled, thinking aloud to herself, she swiped her wrist, conjuring her favourite pen in her hand, as she stared at the letters trying to make sense of it, "it doesn't matter what language it's in, it just needs to be in the book." She concluded, flipping through the pages rapidly, hair falling into her face as she looked down.

"So, uh, what are we doing with this, Lucy?" Gray interjected, slightly out of the loop.

"T-this book is essentially Natsu; his very soul, his very being is tied to these pages, these letters," Lucy said, finally settling on a blank page, she bit her lip as she thought of what to write and how to write it, "our memories, our love for him, we need to write it all here if we don't then—"

"When Natsu defeats Zeref," Happy spoke and Lucy nodded, yes, she liked the sound of that; not if but when— "w-what will happen to him?" Happy's voice quivered.

"I-I'm not sure," Lucy admitted to the exceed, settling on writing down the story of how they met, how Natsu had been Lucy's salvation, "but we won't let that happen, right? He'll be fine." She insisted, her hand fast as she wrote, almost flying across the page. She tried to include as much detail as possible, but she also needed to write fast. She didn't know how much time she had.

How much time Natsu had.

So, the three sat together, Lucy in the middle as she poured over the book. When she became stuck on certain parts, Gray and Happy chimed in, reminding her—jogging her memory as to what Natsu's life had been like before the war. Before Tartaros. Before he left.

She wanted to describe as much of their lives together as possible.

If anything happened to him, she just wanted him to know how much they loved him. It didn't matter to her where he came from or what his origins were. Lucy prayed as she held the book close, hand slightly quivering as she tried to prepare herself for the worst but hope for the best. Suddenly, she heard an explosion, glass shattering and a loud crash, the dirt beneath her feet shifting and sliding. She let out a cry of shock as Gray pushed Happy down, head on a swivel, scanning the area for an enemy.

They saw the smoke rising further in the distance, and Lucy returned all her attention to Natsu's lifeline.

"Natsu, stay with me," Lucy said with urgency, pen furiously scribbling the old, crumpled papers of the book, "please just stay with me. Just a little bit longer."

"Lucy! What's the status on that book?" Gray yelled, eyes trained carefully on the guild hall in the distance, the flames raged on despite everything, but he could see that the left side of the hall had collapsed in on itself.

"I just need a bit more time, okay?" Lucy cried, pressing the book flat against the ground, writing a little bit harder each time.

"Lucy, watch out!"

The book whipped to the side, Lucy shrieked, hastily flying back. The pages ripped themselves open, fluttering before they abruptly stopped, pinning themselves down. Lucy could feel the pure magical energy that radiated from it—it was powerful, unlike anything she had ever felt before. She gasped. The letters—words—flew off the pages, swirling around in the same familiar manner before, only something had changed.

Words had started disappearing.

"What's going on?" Happy asked with alarm, whimpering.

The language was unlike anything Lucy had ever read before, but knowing Levy, Lucy had picked up a few things about deciphering languages, and she could understand prominent, important words as they appeared in the blank spaces.
