It was one of those interminable sleepless nights again, the kind that left Jiwon tossing and turning, unable to find solace in the quiet darkness. Joshua, blissfully unaware of her struggle with insomnia, lay peacefully asleep beside her. As she watched him, his hair tousled from her gentle ministrations as she tucked him in, she felt a wave of affection wash over her. Not wanting to disturb his rest, she decided to leave him a note, carefully placing it on the bedside table before slipping out of bed.
Jiwon quickly changed out of her silk pyjamas, opting for a comfortable white shirt and a pair of shorts. She pocketed the keys to her sleek Porsche, gathering her essentials—a file of lyrics, her phone, laptop, and chargers. Stuffing them all into her stylish Valentino bag, she quietly made her way to the garage, determined to channel her restless energy into something productive.
The familiar hum of the engine filled her with a sense of purpose as she drove towards HYBE, knowing that immersing herself in work was the only way to stave off the relentless grip of sleeplessness. Upon arriving, she unlocked the door to her studio and stepped inside, shutting it behind her with a resolute click. The soft glow of the computer screen illuminated her workspace, but the ache in her neck and fingers reminded her that it was now 3:11 AM.
Just as she was about to put her computers on sleep mode after recording various samples, her phone buzzed with an incoming call from Jun. "Hi Jiwon," he greeted her smoothly in Chinese, his voice warm and familiar. She smiled, resting her head against the back of her chair. "Hi, Jun. Why'd you call?"
"I'm in the practice room and I saw you come in a few hours earlier. Do you want to practice?" he asked. Jiwon's heart lifted at the prospect. "Sure, I'll be right there," she replied, eager to shake off the fatigue. After pocketing her phone, she made her way to the practice room, where Jun awaited her, dressed in a snug black tank top that showcased his toned physique. His dyed red hair was ruffled, and beads of sweat glistened on his skin, a testament to his hard work.
"Same song again?" Jiwon asked as she approached him. He nodded, and a smile spread across her face as she removed her hoodie, ready to dive into the session. Jun promptly switched on the track they were set to practice, and as the music filled the air, they began to dance. This time, Jiwon felt her movements flow more fluidly, her body responding instinctively to the rhythm.
Under Soonyoung's watchful gaze, she felt the pressure to perform perfectly. His reputation for running the dance studio with military precision had preceded him, and Jiwon was determined not to disappoint. Hours slipped by as they practised intensely without a break, going over each recorded song multiple times. At a quarter to seven, they finally collapsed onto the cold dance floor, breathless and exhausted.
"I guess we're going to dance better now," Jun remarked, breaking the silence after several moments of heavy breathing. Both of them had maintained a serious focus during their practice, and now that the session was over, their personalities began to return. "Are you going to go back to the dorms?" Jiwon asked, pulling on her hoodie again.
