"Jiwon, you're my absolute favourite!" Jayoung exclaimed, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm as they stepped out of the car. She then turned to Eric, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Did you see the epic slap Jiwon delivered to that vile creature?" Excitement crackled in the air around them, a palpable energy that seemed to light up the chilly morning. Eric nodded, a smirk playing on his lips. "Yes, I saw it, Jayoung. It was quite the spectacle."
As they emerged from the vehicle, a couple of guards hurried over, their polished shoes echoing against the pavement. With respectful nods, they opened the boot and retrieved two large suitcases. "Thanks, Jayoung," Jiwon said, pulling her best friend into a warm embrace, feeling a wave of gratitude wash over her.
Since the dramatic events of the previous night, Jayoung had been relentless in her praise of Jiwon, celebrating the way she had stood up to Naeva. The reception had been a whirlwind of emotions, but now, a significant chapter in their lives was coming to a close. Jayoung and Eric were officially husband and wife, embarking on their new journey together. As the reality of their departure sank in, Jiwon felt a tear slip down her cheek, despite the mask and glasses she wore.
"Hey, don't cry," Jayoung said softly, pulling back to look at her friend, concern etched on her features. "Or I'll start crying too!"
"I'm not crying," Jiwon reassured her, though her voice trembled slightly. Jayoung and Eric were heading off for their honeymoon, a month-long escape to Bali, where Eric had surprised Jayoung with a stunning villa. Jiwon had come to see them off, as Joshua and Jeonghan were caught up in an unexpected group meeting. Jeonghan had expressed his gratitude for the couple's hospitality, while Joshua had given them a heartfelt, brotherly farewell. Jeonghan was also leaving that evening.
Jiwon turned her gaze to Eric, her expression earnest. "Promise me you'll take good care of her?"
"Of course," Eric replied, opening his arms for a hug. He ruffled her hair affectionately and added with a playful grin, "I'll miss you, my little menace." He kissed the top of her head, and Jiwon couldn't help but roll her eyes, fighting to keep her voice steady. "Oh please, shut up. We'll meet in Korea after a month."
"That, we will," he reassured her, his voice filled with sincerity. Just then, a guard standing nearby checked his watch, his expression professional yet gentle. "Mr and Mrs Song, it is time for your flight," he urged politely. Eric and Jayoung nodded, and Jiwon felt a pang of bittersweet emotion. "I guess you're leaving now," she said softly.
"Damn right," Jayoung replied, a glimmer of mischief in her eyes. "It was fun wasting Eric's money!" Jiwon laughed, the sound brightening the atmosphere. "Bye, you two! Have an amazing time!" she called, waving enthusiastically. As they departed, Jayoung and Eric made her promise to take care of herself and resolve things with Joshua. Jiwon agreed, her heart swelling with affection for her friends.
Jiwon watched as Jayoung, hand in hand with Eric, crossed the road and disappeared behind the hydraulic doors of the airport. She waved a final goodbye, her heart heavy yet elated. For a long moment, she stood there, staring into the distance, feeling an overwhelming mix of emotions. "Wow," she muttered to herself, "it's finally over."
