A/N Hello everyone and welcome back to another chapter of this story! I hope you all know that this chapter is where things begin to go down. Izuku and Clementine will be leaving with the group as they prepare to head out and go search for a safer place to hide from William 'Bill' Carver. But the real issue is keeping Pete from getting killed early on in this chapter.
Izuku sat still near Pete's unconscious body, his mind flowing with different ways that this Carver should arrive at the cabin. He knew that the dead bodies around the creek being riddled with bullet holes had shown something was going on very badly. But the fact that Izuku hadn't realized it until a few minutes before, was really concerning for his awareness.
"I should've noticed it far sooner than I did." Izuku growled out under his breath.
"You didn't know by then, but for us we were talking to someone who knew a member of our previous group." Clementine said, trying to console Izuku.
"Clementine, this isn't about who we were talking to. You and I saw the bullet holes in their bodies, we both made a connection that they were shot from behind." Izuku said, glancing at Clementine.
"We were distracted with the guy we found at the creek though." Clementine said, trying to reason with him.
"I know, just doesn't make it better that we had lowered our guard in order to take our minds away from the bullet ridden bodies." Izuku said, taking a deep breath.
Looking at the stairs, the two found that the small group they'd found had been rushing as fast as they could in order to collect their belongings. They were moving at a pace that could cause them to slow them in the future if they didn't take a break for a moment. Taking a deep breath, he was about to tell them to stop when everything froze around him.
Izuku took a sniff of the air as he smelt something that reeked of both blood and a disgusting smell that was so horrible Izuku covered his nose. Clementine took note of his reaction as she stared at him in confusion, all before everyone heard a knock on the door.
KNOCK! KNOCK!
Immediately pushing everyone to be hiding under the house, including Pete. Izuku walked towards the door and opened it for his new arrival, the person who reeked the awful smell. The man standing at the door of the cabin looked like he'd seen better days, not only that... but Izuku had a certain feeling about the man that he was trouble.
"Howdy neighbor. Nice to meet you." The man said, his voice gruff and scratchy.
"Hello neighbor, how can I help you?" Izuku asked.
"Have you seen some of my people, they've run away from home, and I just want to return them back to safety. Should be an old man, a couple of young guys, a black man, a woman who is actually my wife and is of the colored race, as well as a doctor and his kid?" The man asked.
"I haven't seen them around here, and I'd probably be headed South of this area. There was a lot of shooting in this area just in the last week, so walkers are bound to be coming this way." Izuku replied curtly.
"Aw shucks, I guess they really did go further South. Mind if I check in your home anyway?" The man asked.
"I'd rather not, you're not someone I know, and personally I don't care about your people. I have never met them and you are not someone I would like near the only other piece of family I have left." Izuku said, with a glare.
"Well then, I believe it's high time I leave then. See you later." The man said, walking away.
Izuku glared at the man from afar, once he disappeared in the brush Izuku closed the door. Turning to look at the door where Clementine was hiding behind, he found her staring at how he caused the man to leave. Walking over to her, Izuku pulled Clementine in for a hug as he wrapped his wings around her as well.
