"Happy Birthday, grandma!" SJ gave the older woman a hug, rocking back and forth with her with a huge smile on his face. "Thank you, baby boy." She pulled away from the hug and kissed his cheek, SJ jokingly cringing which made the people around them laugh.

"Gone boy— hey, emmie." She smiled blissfully, pulling her daughter into a hug much like the one she gave SJ, she opened her eyes to see Lindsey behind her. "Pretty eyes!" She included the woman who gave a small smile, Tiana playfully frowning.

"Hey." Lindsey greeted the woman, getting a hug much like the two individuals before her, warm and welcoming. "Happy Birthday."

"Thank you." She stated when she pulled away, taking the gift that Lindsey handed her. "Come on in here.." The woman opened the house door and led the way inside, the cool a.c met their hotter skin and cooled it down. "Hey auntie!" Kali raced over to Tiana, the woman picked her up when she reached. "Hey baby, how you beennn?"

"Good! Can I go home with you?" She instantly asked, Tiana already knew that it was coming. "Kali ima whoop your lil ass, what I tell you bout runnin in and out?" Gwen fussed at the little girl, taking her out of Tiana's arms. Tiana just shook her head and watched as her mother shooed Kali out of the house, she turned to Lindsey who was also watching.

"She's not babysitting." She whispered, Lindsey cracking a small smile. "Come on here, child. Let me show you where the good shit is, pretty eyes, you drink?" She questioned while leading the way into the kitchen, Lindsey following the two women.

"Yes ma—."

"—aht, don't call me that. I know I'm old but I don't wanna hear that ma'am shit." Her mother in law scolded, bending over to unlock her mini fridge. "What you like to drink?"

"Whatever you have." Lindsey shrugged.

"I got a hotbed for tequila.. and a lil patron." The woman spoke up, taking the bottles out of the fridge she began to sit them on the deep freezer. She had Jose Cuervo, silver patron, some fruit flavored 1800 and some cognac in a shelf on side the fridge.

"Patron is fine."

"Emmie make her a drink, I gotta go check on my meat. Scuse me.." the woman bypassed the two, heading out of the kitchen to the back door. "We're not staying long. She's already a little tipsy, my daddy is gonna be pissed when he gets here." Tiana told the woman while grabbing 2 new red cups from the countertop.

"Why? It's her birthday." Lindsey furrowed her brows slightly, about to take her cup but Tiana shook her head. "I got it.. and because he doesn't like her drinking. He doesn't like alcohol period." She explained while pouring some wild berry 1800 in both cups, adding a little bit of patron afterwards.

"Not even on is his wife's birthday?" Lindsey asked sarcastically, Tiana humming in agreement. "What time is your mom gonna be ready?" She asked the woman, taking a sip from her cup while leading the way out of the kitchen, the loud music from the backyard growing in their ears.

"I'm not sure. She's gonna call me when she gets off the plane."

"Mmkay." Tiana replied back, sliding the patio door open she stepped out first and glanced around, waving at her mother's family and friends. "Hey everybody!" She made sure to say, not having the patience to greet them all individually.
