𝙳𝚊𝚛𝚔 𝙳𝚒𝚟𝚒𝚗𝚎 – 𝙷𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚘𝚠𝚎𝚎𝚗𝚝𝚘𝚠𝚗"Now, what are you planning on saying to the council?" asked Aggie.
Aggie was helping Maisie and Marnie to prepare for the council meeting.
They had gotten summons to the council because of the fact that that they had opened the portal to the mortal world after Halloween had passed, which was impossible, but apparently not.
Marnie had taken offense to the summons.
"Oh, what am I going to say to them?" asked Marnie.
"Grandma, no," Dylan said. "Don't get her started."
"Oh, well, I sure know what I'd like to say to them," Marnie said. "But you know what? All I should have to say is... 'you're welcome'. I mean, I only opened the portal to save the entire world. Thank me very much. I should be getting a – a, ooh, a parade, but no, no, no, I get a summons instead."
"You get her started," Dylan replied.
"Any idea on how to turn her off?" asked Aggie.
"Duct tape," Maisie replied.
"Oh, and you know why they don't like my idea of letting the kids from Halloweentown go to school here?" Marnie continued.
"Fear and ignorance," Gwen spoke to Sophie.
"Fear and ignorance!" exclaimed Marnie. She scoffed, "That's why. Honestly. I mean, you try to bring a little harmony to the universe and all you get is—" Bells chimed and Marnie went to the look at the grandfather clock. She looked at Aggie, "Is it time?"
"Oh, no, dear, trust me," Aggie stated. "You'll know when it's time."
"Huh?" Marnie asked, "What are you talk—" A portal opened in the entrance hall and Marnie was sucked in backwards.
Maisie ran after Marnie and the portal closed, before another portal opened and deposited them in some kind of circular thing.
They were standing before a council member, who was wearing a powdered wig. Apparently, those were a thing in Halloweentown too.
"Hi, your, uh..." Maisie trailed off, noticing four other council members. Public speaking was not her strong suit.
"Greatness," Marnie added, and then proceeded to add, 'ssess' at the end, once seeing what made her sister clam up. "Um, if I could say a few words in our defense..."
"Marnie, please, you and Maisie have nothing to defend," the powdered wig council member said. "We've asked you two here to thank you."
Maisie felt relieved at that. She smiled, "Really?"
"Of course, you and Marnie saved Halloweentown," the council member said. "I think it's the least we could do."
"Oh," Marnie said. Maisie felt relieved that she wasn't going to get in trouble for opening the portal past Halloween. Marnie chuckled, "It was nothing. You're welcome." She paused, "I don't suppose there's a parade involved."
Maisie elbowed Marnie, because her ego was showing.
The powdered wig council member said, "Now, about your proposal to send a dozen Halloweentown students to high school in the human world..." He paused, "I say, that if the portal's open, we might as well use it, right?"
The chamber thing that they were standing on, rotated to the council member on the far right that had several hands.
"Now, Council President Dalloway, I really must put several of my feet down," the council member said. "You and this council are really determined to leave us defenseless. The idea of sending children into the human world..."
"They'll have me, and Maisie, and my mom and my grandmother," Marnie said. "They'll have the entire Cromwell clan protecting them."
The chamber thing rotated to the council member with a pumpkin head, "I doubt even you two are a match for the Knights."
Maisie was confused, "The Knights? Like Knights of the round table?"
"Shields, lances, metal suit knights?" added Marnie.
The chamber rotated to Dalloway, "Yes, the Knights of the Iron Dagger."
Maisie didn't like the sound of that.
"Their mission in life was to destroy all things magical," a female member said as the chamber rotated to her.
She had pointy ears and fangs.
"Okay, okay," Marnie said. "You people have to get out a little more."
"It would be wise not to insult them," Maisie whispered to Marnie.
"See," Marnie continued, "This is why we need the program – to show that the world is different."
The mummy council member shook their head and held up a sign that said 'nay' on it.
"I mean, people have changed," Marnie said. "People are more tolerant now."
Maisie almost laughed at that. People can't accept interracial marriages or people who liked the same gender. What makes Marnie think people would accept actual magic and creatures? Sure, Kimberly accepted Maisie when she told the human.
"I find that highly unlikely," the multi-handed member said.
"In fact," Marnie said, "I bet all the Cromwell magic that humans have changed."
Maisie grabbed Marnie's shoulder and hissed, "Marnie, what are you betting with again?"
"We can all live in harmony," Marnie continued. "We can all coexist."
"She said!" yelled the multi-handed man.
"Yes!" exclaimed the pumpkin headed man.
"You all heard it!" the multi-handed man continued. "She said it!"
"Marnie, if you feel that strongly to bet the Cromwell magic, then we have no choice but to accept your proposal," Dalloway stated. "You both have until midnight on Halloween." He slammed the gavel down.
"Wait," Marnie said, "Uh, midnight on Halloween?"
"We accept your challenge," Maisie told Dalloway, even though a small part of her was freaking out a little because 'all the Cromwell' magic was on the line.
"What did I say?" asked Marnie as the portal opened and sucked them through it to send them back home.
