Keith had been up all night panicking. He was attacked and assaulted by his thoughts. He worried that he would give himself away, worried that he'd be rejected if he were to say anything, and had been through at least 50 different scenarios of what could go wrong. When the Sun finally came up, he tried to make himself look mildly presentable. He decided to go with black ripped jeans, a black shirt, a scarlet red hoodie, unzipped, and red converse. Keith would normally wear all black in these sorts of situations, but he was willing to put on a little color for Lance.
Keith busied his mind by reading a romance novel to get himself in the mood. What the hell was he even doing? This was stupid, reading books on romance so he could get a sense on what to do with Lance. And what would he even do then? Make a sad attempt at flirting? He'd end up tripping all over his words and making a fool of himself. Ridiculous.
Perfect.
Maybe, if he made a fool of himself, Lance would see what he'd be getting into, if he was into Keith. No, no, he can't think of that. But it was already too late. Keith spiraled into daydreaming about Lance. His laugh, that smile, and the wonderful personality that makes Lance who he is, and who Keith inevitably loves.
Time passed quickly after that. Before he knew it, 2:30 had rolled around and Keith was heading out the door with his satchel and riding towards Lance's house. It was surprisingly quick, only a 15 minute drive without any traffic. When he got to his house, he got off and walked towards the door, Keith took a deep breath. Just do what you always do, even if you're not good enough for Lance, just be yourself. All you have to do is–
"How long have you been standing there for?"
"AH FUCK! NOT THAT LONG. THAT WOULD BE UH– WEIRD. HOW ARE YOU DOING?"
"Are you ok? You sound like, well, like a psychopath."
"Yeah, you just... scared me."
They stayed in silence for a while, Keith taking his time to admire Lance's outfit as subtly as possible. He wore dark blue boot cut jeans, a NASA shirt, a black leather jacket, and navy blue Converse. He obviously looked way more put together, making Keith feel self conscious. He soon realized that Lance was looking at him, almost amused, so Keith turned around, blushing like a lunatic.
"Are you ready to go?" Lance asked.
"Yeah. Oh and there's only one helmet so, you can have it."
"But-"
"Don't worry, I've ridden so many times that I've lost count. I'll be fine. Now get on."
Lance walked clumsily over to the motorcycle while clutching his bag for dear life.
"Lance, I promise that you're not gonna die. You trust me, right?"
"I... I do. But uh, where do I put my..."
"Either on my shoulders or around my waist." Keith tried to sound nonchalant, failing tremendously. As Lance slowly got on, Keith could feel his hesitation. He didn't mind, really, there wasn't anything wrong about Lance grabbing onto his–
Keith's posture shot up, his body still. Because Lance had actually grabbed his waist, that's platonic, right? He tried not to read into it too much, or lean into it too much. He wanted more than anything to relax and embrace the warmth of Lance being so close to him. Until Lance had laid his head on Keith's shoulder.
"Are you actually ready to go, emo boy?"
"Sure am."
He didn't make the choice to lean in, but he did anyway. It felt right, and neither one of them said anything. So they set off.
