Long time ago, Nick's and Brent's age: 5 years old.
Child Nick's POV.
Me and Brent were in our room, drawing plans of the technologies of robots we had in mind.Unfortunately, we started fighting. I was saying that the most important thing in a good robot should have a nicely looking design and well placed plaques for it to work, while Brent said it should have correctly made screws and wires in the robot.
After a few seconds of yelling at each other, our mom came inside our room.
"Why are you yelling at each other, my dears?" - she asked us."Nick is being a meanie and liar!" - Brent exclaimed, pointing at me.
"No, that's not true! It's Brent who is a meanie here!" - I yelled back.
"Hey, calm down, sweethearts. Explain, what is the fight about?" - our mom said, trying to cool us off.
"Look, mom." - I said as I showed her a paper where I drew everything about the robot me and Brent were discussing earlier. - "I said that the most important things when making a robot is the design and plaques, so the outside in general is good, while Brent thinks that the most important things are some stupid screws and cables inside!"
Our mom laughed to herself.
"Oh, honey... Both of you are correct. These things you both mentioned are really important in things like technologies." - she said with a calm tone. - "But, if you want to check who is more correct, how about you two will make a robot based on what you said? That way we can see which of the mentioned things are more important."Me and Brent looked at each other, then nodded to mom.
"Okay, mom!" - I answered and took my paper to immediately start working on the robot.
It took us over a week to finish our robots, and once we finally did, we went to our parents to demonstrate our creations.First was Brent.
The inside of Brent's robot was holding together really well, which was a huge plus in this.
However, after turning it on, the outside of the robot was falling off and besides it was weirdly made. In my opinion ugly too. It made Brent sad, but our parents were proud of him anyway. Then, I showed my robot to our parents. It looked nice, but the insides of the robot were placed incorrectly, which didn't even let the robot work.
"So..." - our dad started. - "Brent's robot was working well, but the outside of it was wacky.""While Nick's robot was holding every part outside, but didn't work because of the inside part." - our mom summed up.
"What does that mean, then?" - I asked, as me and Brent looked at our parents.
Our mom smiled.
"That means you both are individually intelligent enough to make progress, but to achieve perfection, you two must work together.""Together?" - me and Brent asked and looked at each other.
"Yes, dears." - our mom warmly said. - "Try to work together on another creation. Let's see if it will be better then."
We listened to our mom's advice and went towards our room to work on the robot.
We finished after about 4 days, which was much quicker than working individually. We went to our parents to show them the robot we made together this time.
To our surprise, it worked perfectly from the inside and no parts were falling from the outside.
Our parents just smiled and my mom crouched next to us.
"I told you, sweethearts. You two can work alone and make progress or part of something work. But to fully achieve something important, you need each other's backs." - our mother said with a warm smile.
Me and Brent looked at each other, really happy. Then, Brent held out a hand to me."Let's promise each other! We'll always have each other's backs and help whenever the other needs it! I promise!" - he said happily to me.
I grabbed his hand, agreeing.
"Okay, I promise too!" - I answered, as excited as him.
