The Broken Observatory - Party Crashers AU

Yoshi forest.

  
We were walking like that for the next 15 minutes, when suddenly, the phone I had in my pocket rang. I took it out and stopped everyone, as I answered the call.
 
 
"Hello?" - I started.

"Hello, Brent it was, right?" - we heard the old man's voice through the phone.

"Yes, what do you need, professor?"

"I was able to do some calculations about the time until the full loss of the observatory's power, as well as how long it will take for you all to get there."

"Oh, how much time do we have then?"

"According to everything I could check, it will take about 4-5 days until the power loss." - the professor said as we heard him typing something. - "I've checked all the possible paths to the castle, and the fastest one on foot will take you over a day with no breaks. Counting the sleep and rests, breaks and things like these is equal to around three days until you all get there."

"Oh my fucking god, I'm already tired by just hearing it." - Nick complained.

"Shut up, Nick." - I answered that, annoyed. - "Okay, what's the fastest path?"

"I'm going to send you this route on the phone." - the professor said. - "It could take about 10 minutes because of the signal in the forest, but so far the path you're going through is good. For now, just walk the way you have been so far."

"Alright, thank you." - I answered and hung up.
 
 
I put the phone back in my pocket and continued the way with the others, just as the professor suggested.

After a few minutes of walking, we were in Yoshi's forest. I've heard about this place before but never actually were here, so seeing all the Yoshis there was a really interesting experience.

I looked at the Yoshis, then at the boys behind me. Eevee had his natural face, Nick had a calm smile as he came up to one Yoshi, while Vern was really excited and happy. He reminded me of a child, it was kinda sweet.
 
 
"They look so CUTE!" - Vern exclaimed, as he ran up to the first Yoshi to pet him.

Nick laughed to himself as he saw Vern running up to the Yoshi.
"You've never seen a Yoshi before?" - he asked, smiling.

"Well, no! I've heard about them, but never got a chance to actually see them!" - Vernias answered, excited, running up to every Yoshi there. - "OOH, THERE'S A PINK ONE!"

Me and Nick laughed again.

Nick came to a tree to take an apple from it and gave it to Vernias.
"Give it to Yoshi." - he said, passing the apple to him.

Vern looked at the apple with happiness, like a child getting a candy. He immediately turned back to pink Yoshi and gave him an apple. Literally a few seconds later, the Yoshi ate the apple.

"SO CUTE!" - Vernias yelled.

"Acting like a child is really your thing, Vernias." - Sophist said jokingly, as he came closer to all of us, laughing a bit.
 
 
They were talking, fighting and teasing each other after that, but I stopped paying that much attention to that.

A few minutes later, I heard a buzz sound, so I took out the phone and noticed that it was showing us the short path the professor was talking about.

I looked around, trying to see which way we're supposed to go, when I noticed something in the bush. I told the boys about it and we went towards that. Seconds later, we noticed... Well, a weird pink creature with a red bow on it's head.
 
 
Nick started talking first.
"Holy mother of fucking lord, what is THIS monstrosity." - he said, disgusted.

"Hey! Don't be rude, it looks cute!" - Vernias yelled at Nick, smiling at the weird creature.

"THAT? YOU'RE CALLING THAT THING CUTE? IT'S FUCKING HIDEOUS." - Nick yelled back, seemingly getting more mad each second.

"It actually looks terrible." - Eevee admitted.

"You guys have horrible taste, what do you mean "it looks terrible"? It looks really cute!" - Vernias exclaimed.

"Listen, are you a fallen angel because you're our saving grace or a fallen angel because this fall from the lighting earlier made you damage your brain?" - Nick said back. - "How can you find THIS THING cute?!"

Eevee laughed at that, I just giggled.

"You're so rude, Nicolas!" - Vernias said.

Nick was about to fight longer, but I decided to intervene before another unnecessary fight would start.
"Okay, okay, pause here." - I said, and looked at that pink dinosaur. - "Whatever... that is... We can't fight about such a stupid thing. And Vernias, before you ask, no, we can't take it with us." - I continued as I looked at Vern.

"Aww man..." - Vern sighed.

"And good, what in the actual fuck is this." - Nick said.

"Nick, as much as I agree with you, I wouldn't fight about it. It's pointless." - I explained, trying to cool everyone off.

"You guys just dislike beautiful people, honestly." - Vern stated.

I sighed.

Nick started yelling again.
"PEOPLE. YOU REALLY SAID PEOPLE-"

"NICK AND VERN, SHUT THE FUCK UP!" - I yelled, tired of them fighting. - "CAN WE FUCKING CONCENTRATE FOR ONCE?!"

The others seemed stunned to hear me explode like that, which I understood, but I genuinely couldn't hear them talk anymore, it was tiring me out.

"Sure-" - Vern said with an awkward smile.

"Thank you, holy fuck." - I answered and rubbed my face.
  
  
Not going to lie, it was a bit of a breakdown moment, I got a genuine headache from all of that.

I noticed Vernias looking at everyone, and then, he held out his hand in a barrel shape, smiling. We all looked at each other, and the first one to put their hand on Vern's, was Sophist. Both of them looked at me and Nick. We looked at each other and smiled, as Nick also placed his hand, and right after him I did the same.

Suddenly, we all felt a weird power going through our hands, making it glow. We quickly took our hands off and looked at it, as the glow quickly faded out.

We then looked at each other, stunned.
 
  
"I-I'm not twitching, right?-" - Vernias' asked, stuttering, as he looked at us.

"No. What the fuck was that?!" - Nick shouted as he rubbed his glove.

"Maybe it's something that shows the power we all have. Or a combination between all of the powers?" - I said, giving some ideas.

"No, that doesn't seem right." - Nick shook his head. - "It happened right after we ALL had our hands placed. If it was a combination, it would've worked with, for example, just Vernias and Eevee, right when both of them had their hands placed."

I hummed, then got another idea.
"Well, you're right. But maybe it's because the four of us have hidden connections with each other?"

Everyone looked at each of us, as we all smiled and laughed.

"Let's keep it for when it's needed." - Eevee suggested.

"I agree." - Nick admitted.
 
I nodded and took out the phone to look at the map again, thinking about that sudden power effect. Maybe us four being teamed up for an adventure wasn't such a coincidence?
