Imagine a world where human contact is Illegal, where even touching another person could cause death to the both of you. Ann Hayes doesn't have to imagine this as it is the world she lives in. It is now the year 1312, and it's coming up to thirty years since the law against human contact has been put into place.
After the outbreak of an incurable disease that rapidly spreads through all forms of contact, the Government had no other choice but to lay a law against human contact, but not all follow this law. Some people hide in the shadows of night, as their hands wonder lustfully along the skin of a lover, some break the law behind the closed curtains of their homes, they risk death just to hold and kiss their partners. But, breaking this law comes with a price, many people dissappear for this crime and no one knows what happens to them, but many suspect the worse.
Ann Hayes a typical teenage girl, like many others follows this law, and although she longs to feel her mother and fathers embrace, she knows she can not. But can she continue to follow it as trouble comes to town in the form of an older boy, can she stray away from his rebellious ways or will temptation blur the lines of right and wrong.
