The skyline was an image of perfection as the city borders hit the sky's fading light. There was no skyscrapers or towering buildings like those in movies, just average buildings that looked like beauty at its most perfect form.
The car drove at a steady pace as I watched the city near us. Sarah stared forward but her eyes did not take in all of the beauty, how could her eyes not see all of that beauty, well that was easy to answer.
Sarah was worried, the accident was all over the news. A small building crashed to the ground after explosives were set off to bellow the rebellion to the ground, Sarah asked a lot of questions about why I had to go the local hospital that sat minutes away from the incident, I tried to come up with some reasons, but I told her the truth, I told her about Derek, well somewhat the truth, as far as she knew, he lived right beside the fallen building and had been injured while passing it.
She was still nervous though, nervous as hell as she handled the steering wheel with a grip so tight I could hear the leather screech under her hand.
"Ann, does your mother know about this boy?, I mean, does she allow you to travel to these parts of the city?"
"no, not really, but I need to see is he ok, wouldn't you want the same thing if you were in my situation?" I asked.
She just nodded.
The car came to a halt behind what looked like a ever ending traffic jam. Horns were going off every second as people impatiently tried to escape the jam.
Sarah sighed and took a glimpse at her watch, the infused diamonds caught every ray of light and shone back at her, "we'll be hear for hours" she groaned, she adjusted her rear view mirror and behind us was what sat before us, more and more cars piled up crating a larger traffic jam than before.
"Well we cant turn back, it will be the same scenario, might as well stick it through" I replied, resting my head against the seat.
It was going to be a long night.
The hospital was jam packed, people sat waiting, others were waiting around for a doctor, someone that could help. Many were covered in blood, their clothes tore and dirty.
We walked up to the receptionist who sat biting the cap of her pen as she stared at the computer. The smell of her perfume was strong, almost suffocating. "Excuse me" Sarah said, leaning her arms onto the counter, the woman looked up, her messy bun falling behind her head. Her pools of blue eyes were masked by eyeliner and mascara, it was a lot but less then the blush that gave her cheeks an ill red look.
"Yes" she replied, her name badge was crocked and read Sam.
"Were looking for" Sarah looked to me for his name, "Derek" I sighed, "were looking for Derek, he was brought here after the explosion, I don't know his surname, sorry"
"Are you family?" she asked, diverting her eyes to her computer as her hands began to type in his name, "No" Sarah answered before me, I shook my head, not to answer Sam, but in disbelief to what Sarah had said, it was obvious that you had to be family to see most patients.
"Sorry family only"
Just as I thought.
"Feel free to wait though, he should be released in about half an hour, the police are speaking to him and then he's free to go".
Sarah just walked away and I followed like a pissed off shadow, "we're not waiting" was all she said,
"why?" I cried, "please Sarah" I begged,
"no way, he's in trouble with the police, if your parents knew this they would, I don't even know what they would do" She sighed,
"probably kick me out" I shrugged, "but it's to late for that eh?", She didn't laugh or comment on it, just shook her head and left.
